Security/Police Scanner. Play as Local Authorities.

First: My apologies if this has been brought up already. This came up in conversation in another thread discussing possible ways to improve bounty hunting. If someone else has already had this idea, then I apologize for missing the discussion!

Just a random brainstorm thought. We can already rank up in many factions within the game. I thought it might be fun to gain the trust of the local authorities and work your way in to joining their ranks. Possibly gaining access to equipment such as a Police scanner/radio that could pop up markers on your HUD in a similar fashion to USSs and other POIs. For basic immersion, some ambient radio chatter would put a smile on my face, for sure.

I'd think it'd be fun for this "security scanner" to display an alert and new POI as crimes in system are detected, allowing you to try to get to the scene of the crime in time to catch the perpetrator. Maybe you make it in time to engage him, maybe you don't.

Pairing said device with a wake scanner would provide a fun new way to chase down criminals/marks/bounties. I'd just see it as a new way to find your role and make your mark in the galaxy. :) And yes.... I'd still get geeked out over ambient radio chatter from security forces. :)

Love it! Also I heard that in earlier days you could call a t-9 to come refuel you if you ran out of fuel. Since my t-9 has a 64T fuel tank it would be neat if you could get requests for fuel from nearby ships and jump there to refuel them and earn money!

I like the idea of having players working for the authorities. Those local authority ships are next to useless in a fight. Also, pirates having the possibility of a player coming in with the authority ships makes piracy a little more dangerous. Most player pirates can pretty much ignore the authority ships, they are little more than flies buzzing around your head, a little swat here and there soon scatters them. A player coming in with the same status as an authority ship however... Now it's getting a bit hot for them.

I have always said that the lack of radio chatter makes the game seem too lonely. I know you're a solo pilot with no co-pilot to chat to and such, but having a bit of local background chatter on the radio would make you feel less isolated.

There was already suggested setting a faction for players outside of conflict zones. I personally like the suggestion, as I want to shape my character into a trader/bounty hunter. I hunt only pirates. That makes me a vigilante or a paladin, depending on who you ask. :) It would make finding targets a lot easier, as the pirate ships would see my System Authority or Federal Security Service transponder (it's a real thing, why are my sensors active radar in a small cone forward, and not 360 degree active radar, when I really want a fight) and *immediately* see me as hostile. I see this as a more interesting fix to the problem of friendly fire. The FSS ships are much less likely to shoot me, because even if I hit them with a glancing blow, they recognize one of their own and hold fire.
