Security Scans and NPCs ramming!

Since 2.0 I have noticed a significant increase in the frequency and aggressiveness of security scans outside of stations, both incoming and leaving. I do not have an issue with this in itself but the lack of anti-collision awareness in NPCs, particularly security ships has meant a tenfold increase in the number of speeding tickets I am getting.

Surely there must be a simple way of having NPC ships at least try an avoid you.

I keep picking up 5000 cr bounties because NPC's keep bouncing off my shields and exploding. Hopefully they will patch the blindfolds off them soon.

If you stick to the speed limit, they don't hit you! Simples! It's one of the game mechanics that punishes you for breaking the law.

They also do it at nav beacons when you bring a panel up- typically after you just killed someone and want to find the next target, but, again, they don't hit you if you slow right down before bringing up the panel.

Didn't know there was a speed limit in a RES ¬_¬

Actually, they will still be bouncing off your shields when you cruise straight, while moving at 96-98 m/s... Silly Viper Jocks, hitting boost when they don't need to. :p

I have found that I don't become Wanted so much now for hitting npcs with my weapons fire as I try to maintain situational awareness but now I become wanted more often because I stop my python when opening up a panel. Usually though if I keep moving slowly and a blind npc pilot glances off of my ship most times they don't end up blowing up. Maybe they should fit the npc pilots with Coke bottle bottom glasses. LOL

They will absolutely hit you even if you are sitting still.

+1. This is true. I've been rammed by scanning NPCs while sitting still or moving. Since the 1.5/2.0 update, reverse thrust and reverse throttle no longer stops you. It'll slow you down a little, but nothing like it did in 1.4 and earlier. The NPCs are also experiencing this and you can see their efforts to slow down until they ram you.

Yup. I'll pull outside of the mass lock of a RES ring to charge shields, AMFU modules, count up bounty vouchers, assess ammo levels, etc...when out of nowhere a Clipper or whatever slams into me, sometimes with my shields down if they're getting repaired...serious pain in the ass.

Now, as I said in another thread, if I see it coming, I'll go ahead and throw 4 pips into SYS and boost my own Clipper into oncoming NPC ships and the overwhelming majority of the time, I come out better than they do.

I've sat still in a REZ and repeatedly got rammed by NPCs, very annoying if your waiting for your shields to strengthen....

My tip:
FA-OFF and dift down or upwards slowly. NPCs seem to skim under or over you instead.
No help what so ever while docking though. Security will ram you at full speed on the way in. Lol

I think there is a reason for that, being rammed while in docking sequence...
They want to prevent you from docking (getting safe from them)...
Noticed this as well, and I am 100% allied. XD

One of them hit me with such ferocity, it took my A5 shield on my Vulture down.
Wonder how he looked though...

They might still ram you, but they don't blow up if you're stationary or going slow. That's what I found, anyway. Ramming is annoying, but you can live with it unless they blow up and put a bounty on you.

Hmm... I've noticed that NPC Anacondas have a tendency to try to ram you in RESs since 1.4, but more still since 1.5.

Usually it's best to avoid the collision, as I'm normally in a ship with a lot less mass, so would come off worse. However, there are also times when ramming can be a very useful tactic.

I'm still laughing at all the station security who back into the station wall as I gently fly through the slot while they scan me :)

It's okay, I often wonder why I hear sound of collision then the station opens fire on my ship in my Cutter, but that can be shrugged off with mah massive shields >:3

Standing still at Nav Beacons results in NPCs crashing into me. It's looks like the AI is unable to scan ships that aren't moving. I reproduced this multiple times.

Quite a few times (I'm clean as a whistle mostly) on going into stations I get scanned'n'rammed by the cops since 1.5, I suppose its because they can't wind down their windows and shout "oy stop" when in space, they would be an instant ice cube.
