seeing a distress call

When I think of space and distress calls, I think of stuff like Star Trek.

This is nothing like that.

Am I the only one who is worried about the future of space travel, knowing that a distress call will go unanswered out of fear of dropping out of frame shift and into a 5vs1 where your shields and hull disappear in 2 seconds?

I always have loads of fun in my Corvette and it often gets waves of 6 after each other until I have had enough fun for the time being. Admittedly when there is a Python in the mix it can take a while until you can stop the Eagles and Cobras from shooting at you.

My most fun was when an Anaconda and three Vultures spawned in. I took down each vulture then the Anaconda.

Hehe, I took my brand new Cobra Mk.4 into one before even reaching my home base :D
(needless to say, it lasted less than 40sec)

Whenever I see "Distress Call" now I'm thinking "Very Strong Signal Source".
yeah you can call em that :p

i went in it with a FAS and my mate in a vulture. Made it to signal 3 before we jumped out.

I've had a few of the battle type distress calls, but I've also had a few "I've run out of fuel, help!" ones too... but only when I've not been in my fuel-rat Asp so I have no choice but to leave them drifting!

i fell for a gold ambush too...right before posting this thread lol

popped in, saw gold, nobody was around...ok, deploy scoop, grab one....grab two....3 contacts dropped out of supercruise and 2 seconds later i was staring blankly at "your ship has been destroyed" wondering how in the hell i died so fast. i think i may have cried a little.

Hahah, yes I was Captain Picard... Me in my puny, unarmed 3E shielded Adder, thinking there might be an Occupied Escape Pod in there I can rescue! HURRY!

NO! 3+ hostiles shooting up some NPC guy. And now shooting me!

Tried to get back to SuperCruise, but had a masslock factor of 19 and beam lasers burning me up. Jumped to another star with 59% hull remaining.

:D

That's hilarious! +1 :)

I answered a Distress Call in my DBS yesterday and got jumped by another DBS backed up by an Eagle and two shieldless Sidewinders, it was great fun! I was packing two torps which insta killed both Sidewinders whilst I set upon the Eagle. My dual Scramblers make short work of shields up close (and the new sound effect they have is beastly!) and my medium cannon finishes the job. The Wing Leader in the other DBS turned tail but it didn't take me long to chase him down. Had a great fight and left 100k richer, 10/10 will shop again! :-D

But I agree they could be implemented as a feature a little better, receiving a proper call with a Nav lock to target option would be much more immersive

These kinds of things make me wonder why USS and similar aren't handled or synced via the server. What would make this game feel way more alive would be to see that distress signal, drop in, and see another CMDR there trying to rescue the victim. Sending out a message via local chat (like the one everyone sees in super cruise) that there's a distress signal located at X,Y,Z (And of course we could easily be given system specific coordinates). However it was implemented, I'd love to drop out to gather salvageable wreckage to find another CMDR rummaging through it already. Maybe I want that and am willing to fight for it or offer a trade? ED is a single player game with some multiplayer aspects right now, and I really don't feel like it needs to be.

I've gallantly responded to two distress calls, once in my A-spec Cobra, and the second in my nearly A-spec Viper Mk IV. In both cases, I was engaged by a wing of four ships that made light work of my shields and started eating my hull. Had to run both times. I'm hoping that Distress Calls aren't always that hard.

I've started seeing these now and I have yet to go to one. But considering I'm still a noob Python pilot I think I'll wait until my ship is better equipped!
Been meaning to try a CZ in my Python but I haven't found any since I got it. Lol

I've gone into a couple but left after the second wave came, I think the wave based ones need to be an exception to the under attack distress calls not the rule. I get their a nice source of money but sometimes I just want to pop in help an NPC real quick and hop out. After noticing this is going to be a long engagement I just don't find it worth my time and leave the distress call. They also really really need to fix the dropping you right out of supercruise on the backside of the an enemy ship in these with no time to avoid them. It causes you to start the fight with an already bit damaged shield that won't have time to recover in between waves.

Glad to see I'm not the only one that got sucked in. Dropped into one Friday with 30T of various rares onboard. The 3v1 that was waiting for me made short work of my Cobra :(

It's a bit weird that the 'distress call' is best used as a way to advance 'kill x pirates' missions, rather than rescue someone with fuel or whatever.

When I do complete these, I punch the guy I rescued in the nose once really hard, and tell him next time he gets attacked like that to activate his lojack (can only be seen by cops), rather than put out a general distress call so some poor sod in a Sidewinder doesn't come in and get ganked.
