Seeing major stuttering and freezing this evening - lost a ship as a result

I was maneuvering to hover for a surface landing and then my VR went sutter mad and froze for about 5 seconds. The game was still running despite both the VR and the monitor window being frozen because when it unfroze my ship was just drifting into the surface nose first. Moreover - despite 400+ shields and a speed of ~50m/s the 'impact' into this 0.02G moonlet wiped out my shields and took my hull down to 12%. When I got control back I started to reverse the throttle but too late - VR and the window stuttered and froze again. A few seconds later both displays unfroze just long enough for my Clipper to explode.

I thought it might be my headset but SkyrimVR, NMS VR, X-Plane 11 and WMR Cliffhouse are all working perfectly, it's only ED.

Suffice to say I've opened a ticket. I want my rebuy cost back

Interestingly, I can recreate the problem. It happens consistently on my approach to land on Geological Signal sites. The game stutters, VR and the display will freeze and then resume. The actual act of landing is always fine. Also, the act of getting into the SRV causes the same problem but once I'm out and driving around it's fine. I've done four separate sites and the problem has occurred for all four of them at the same point. Don't get the problem anywhere else, space, space stations, hyperspace etc. It only happens during these two activities. I've turned down the graphics settings both in game, SteamVR and NVCP but nothing makes any difference.

Is it VR or ED? Can you reproduce the freeze if you play on a flat monitor* rather than VR?

(* if you can stand it for that length of time!)

Are all the Geo's on the same world?
If you're in/around the bubble let me know where I'll test this as well.

When I get a chance I'll also try a geo closer to where I am in Asterope.

Had a look at a couple of geo sites near me and didn't get the stutter or freezing. Using a Reverb like you (I think)

I sometimes got 2 - 5 second freezes when fuel scooping with the game obviously continuing (sound reacting to control inputs).
Today i updated the GeForce drivers and i had no problems on the last 50 jumps. Using a Rift-S here.

I get the problem on both my Reverb and the monitor mirror at the same time with the same loss of rendering.

It was all on the same world and if I can remember which one, I'll post it. I vaguely recall it was one of the moons in Shinrata ( which doesn't really narrow it down ), I'll check shortly.

Hmm, I'll give this a go.

Update:

Seems to be ok now - not that I like the fix ( assuming it's not just a coincidence ).

Turned WMR display settings to 'Low' and the refresh from 90Hz to 60Hz ( thank goodness I have built up a VR tolerance for low refresh rates ). In game graphics all to High from Ultra and SteamVR SS from 180% to 140%.

For now it seems to be completely cured. FDev kindly reimbursed my lost ship fee but otherwise told me just to update Windows. They didn't think my system should have any problems running the game. Kinda hard for them, what else can they really say at this point - not much to go on. I'll take Frank_G's advice and update NVDrivers and then try again. See if I can put the settings back up to where they were before the problems started.

Hi aXel.....don't know if they've been fixed lately (Nvidia drivers) but I've been using the suggested 436.48 release. Many reports of stuttering issues in VR with anything after these.
