Seeing other players in Open Play - hardly anyone?

I was playing open, but Nav Beacons where crowded with other CMDRs that it was hard to get bounties on wanted ships. The Nav Beacons are slow to spawn and it seems like they don't scale to how many CMDRs are in an instance. I had to switch over to solo mode so I could make some kills.

also, with it being a free for all the wanted status is easy to achieve with one stray shot and the whole place turns red.

1. Go to your Elite folder: X:\Elite Dangerous\Products\FORC-FDEV-D-1002
2. Look for the AppConfig.xml and rename it to AppConfig.xml.bkp (or whatever you want...)
3. Then restart the launcher and click on options, its a little hidden:

4. Click validate game files...

I did this last night.
Before that, I raaarely saw anyone.
Now, I often see 5-10 players in SC at the same time or at stations - sure it depends where you are.

I'd give it a try, it did fix my problem although the net-settings have been the same before and after validating the files.

I was playing this afternoon between 12pm and 3pm and I saw a lot more human players than I ever have in game. I was in and around the Chemaku system (returned there after buzzing around Sol for a few days) and there were lots of players around. It got so bad in the Hach system that there were 8 of us in various ships hanging around one of the outposts there waiting for docking clearance.

Of course, none of them bothered to interact (and it wasn't for lack of trying on my part... People need to get more into the multi-player aspect of this game, aside from just mindlessly blasting every player they see, even if it's just a quick "hello"), so I just docked as soon as I was able to get clearance, and left.

After that I logged out, and when I came back space was it's usual empty self again...

All through beta I saw players all the time in the 'Pill' and even before that.

Since Gamma 1.0 I have not seen ONE single real player. I play every day, all sorts of times. Never seen a player. I have been in Sol and surrounding system all day today (a Saturday) - no players. I went to the Onionhead world (Kappa Fonacis) on launch day and stayed there several days, went to the warzone - not a single player.

And NO I AM NOT IN SOLO MODE and only went to solo mode a few times just to check maybe my menu had it the wrong way round and everyone was really in Solo lol :)

So what the hell is wrong? Something is, but I don't know what. I am based in Asia but I have played almost every hour of the 24 hour clock on every day of the week.

Beta - lots of players all the time.
Gamma and Release - none, ever, anywhere I go; not matter what day of the week or what time of day.

Same experience here.

Peak number of other commanders seen was late on in Beta 3.9, checked my net log after exiting and it seemed I had been connected to over 20 other pcs, and my upload was maxed at around 1 Mb/s.

Since Gamma I have seen no-one, even around Sol just after Gamma dropped.

I suspect the have turned down the rules that determine island size as a conservative measure to ensure a smooth launch. This might change in coming weeks as net code is further optimised.

I see players all the time. Actually more in Gamma than in Beta and more after release than in Gamma. Was in Lave last night buying some special liquors and got interdicted by players twice. A guy in a Cobra even followed me to station after an unsuccessful interdiction attempt.

I'm located in Sweden, so I'm guessing I get matched with other European players.

Starting to think players are only seeing other commanders that are located physically nearby, ie you are seeing European players.
That would kinda suck for players like me in New Zealand when I'm so much further removed..

I will definitely be trying this, thank you!

Stick around sol if your feeling alone, the one system that generally has atleast one person.

Around Sol, Eranin and Lave i barely saw anyone. I'll go to lhs 4556 or whatever it was people were mentioning.

I think physical location on Earth is a factor at play.

I was hunting at the nav beacon at Eravate around midday Australian time and there were at least 4 other CMDRs there. I felt quite sorry for any ship that came through with a bounty on it.;)

The Federal core worlds seem to have a high player population. That's where I'll be heading soon to do a bit of "Privateering" in the name of Emperor.

There should be a better indicator for human players. I don't want to scan every ship to figure out if it's a human or an AI. Also some sort of message about it on the message screen above. "CmdrXYZ on contacts list" - etc.

Yep, definitely - It should show on the contacts screen which contacts are human players.

All players come up as CMDR <name> when scanned, but what's even easier is that all human ships are shown as hollow squares on the radar, not solid. Keep an eye on your radar and they're actually really easy to spot.

For the giggles, I'll add to this.
Since launch, I have seen a total of one human player in Open Play.
I have been to Sol, LHS 3447, and a few dozen systems in between.

I can watch a twitch stream, see the guy is in LHS 3447, and he'll see 10 people in Supercruise.
I go there, no people.
I have logged in and out countless times, jumped in and out countless times, reset my router, verified Upnp enabled, removed my router, forced UDP port forwarding and updated the config file to reflect the change, my firewall is already disabled, disabled anti virus, uninstalled the game and any remaining registry entries or lingering files of it, reinstalled, removed the config file and validated the game files, and installed Elite onto my backup gaming rig.
I even contacted my ISP to request an IP change and to verify they are not blocking any ports on my connection.

I have still only seen one human player in Open Play since the 16th, and only for a few moments before they vanished from my radar.

I opened a ticket for it, it received a fairly quick response. All they requested was adding some extra logging info to my config file and to submit it. I did so, they said "Thanks. Ticket closed."
Uhm, you're welcome?

So...
Yep. There may be a slight hiccup somewhere.

Wow. That's a lot of work for one other commander. I did the file change as posted above and in lhs 3447 have seen a few players.
Where in the world are you located?

Nice :)

BTW your 9pm Xmas Day is my 10am Boxing Day. I'll have a go at being at Lave at that time. Merry Xmas!
