Proposal Discussion Seek and kill missions

Should locate and kill missions have some sort of tracker?

  • Yes, a tracker that is uploaded to your ships computer would add a lot.

  • No, I like never being able to find a target.

I'd like the seek and kill missions to give the player a tracking device to run down the target, and the target could move quickly from system to system to evade you, but at least you know you are headed in the right direction. It would be nice to see them exiting a system just as you arrive and you scan the wake and follow them and eventually catch up to them, if you are fast enough.

I got tired of looking in 3 suggested systems for hours only to never find the target.

Yeahhh buddyy, at the very least this should be considered ;)
Not even bothered the scavenger missions yet because it would take ages.

Added a poll.

Wow... were you trying to make it a biased poll where people would feel pressured to give you the answer you want? You didn't want to provide options for other solutions, or make emotively neutral responses?

My vote would be "Yes it needs improvement but I dont want a james bond style trackig device coz that would make it TOO easy."

Edit: Is it just me, or is there an amusing irony that a person whose signature claims loudly that they are "seeking what others overlook" is demanding a tracking device to make it easier to find things? Not saying you're wrong... just amused by it. :)

That was a mission in previous elites, I remember you had to buy a hyperspace cloud analyser to see where they had gone, and if you were in a faster ship you could jump there ahead of them and wait for them to arrive at the nav beacon.

I'm sure this will be in there eventually.

Hehe, no it's not just you I was laughing as well.

That's what the Frameshift WakeScanner is already :p

For you lovely biased poll I voted for no, because I don't want a tracking device. I think the mission should give you a description of the last area he was seen, maybe like:

They were last seen heading towards Magec 3B
or
Thy were last seen in the vicinity of I Bootis C & D

Also I have found quite a few of the targets already without too much hassle.

Youve come to terms with "taking lives" then i presume ;)

Anyways, i havent done much missions this beta so Im not sure but some form of hint as to where to search sounds resonable.

heheh you got it, well done.
But in reality no one is demanding anything here.

Nope. But they should add an area, like "Station News" where you can buy/bribe/coax officials to see if your target's ship has been in dock and how long ago and whether or not they might have been trading to planet X or going hunting at location Y. We should also be able to ask NPC ships if they've seen the target. When we get first person views this would translate to an actual exchange with an NPC.

That's a really cool idea.. perhaps it could be added to the "black market", where not only could you sell illegal goods, but also buy information from informants, or offer to bribe the "local security office" for more info. Very role-play-ish... I like it.

I can't take credit for it, it's really just an extension of what happens with the Constrictor hunt from the original game. In that, the usual planet blurb on the system information view got replaced with stuff like:

"I seen that blackguard, he shot me up and headed towards Leesti."

And you had to hunt the Contrictor down by following the clues.

So what we need is an updated version, which I'm sure FD will deliver since it was their idea to begin with.

I definitely don't want to see a quest marker on my screen telling me exactly where to go; that's the complete opposite of the Elite experience.

I spent the best part of 5 hours looking for that pesky Sirocco only to have him jump out when I'd got him down to 4% hull. I tried targeting his framedrive to knock it out but it obviously didn't work.

Being able to fire a tracker that stuck to his ship to tell me which system he had jumped to in the galaxy view would have been a major help.

There is a module for this, that scans the wake left when he jumped.

a tracker would be god those who dont want one can ofc skipp it
maybe use a blindfold ;)

its apparently 3301 ingame and dont use of a tracker seem abit consider as we 2014 have gps trackers for dogs and kids and got a law coming in eu for trackers in cars this summer.
