Seeking an Imperial Clipper

I have no idea. I bought mine last week at Squire in a station whose majority faction is allied with me (not just empire). Maybe they fixed the bug?

Alright I went there and I can not buy the damn thing. I am allied with Patron's principles, when I complete missions for them it says so.
I did 3 days of missions for them at Liaedin. I am a Knight. Why can I not buy the stupid thing?
I just remembered that faction status (other than the big 3) are system specific, regardless of name. So you can be allied with Empire Embassy in one, but the next system owned by them is Neutral. Remember that big 3 status override faction status info (neutral empire faction appears as allied if you're allied with empire), but for the bug to work you need the faction itself to be allied. The only way to see your status is to do a mission for the faction and look at the result screen.

Patron's Priciples operate out of Vequess.

Once you have enough rep you can pick up the ascention missions from the outposts (which means no scans for and questionable cargo you are asked to obtain).

I got permit (and access to Imperial Clipper at nearby Nu) at rank Master. I think master is pretty low in the rankings.

No idea whether Patron's Principles is necessary over any other Empire faction (probably not) but it worked for me.

I don't believe that, Patrons principles both in Liaedin and Volungu were "allied" with me when I turned in missions.

I bought a Imperial clipper with Knight rank that is less than Baron in BETA-1 TUCANE system, it was in Adams Orbital.
Its Imperial system and the government is Patronage.

i'm allied in the system where I brought my clipper (empire consulate), this faction appears to be the one in control and my rep with them is 85%, i'm also friendly with the empire in general as well as another local faction. I got my clipper at the rank of knight, i can only suggest that to get a clipper you need to either be

a) Rank of baron or above, to purchase it from any station, or

b) Allied with a station that is actually selling the ship.

I'll keep my eye out and see if i can purchase one from a different station that i'm not allied with but i'm guessing that's probably a no

Alright I did a mission, I'm neutral to the patron's Principles in THIS system. I'm at a loss for words here.

I think the decision to differentiate between system came up during alpha/beta, it was a design decision. You need this system Patron to be allied with you to take advantage of the bug.

You are trying to take advantage of a bug, any strange "requirements" are not by design. Outside of this bug, they will still sell you the clipper as long as you're a Baron, even if you're hostile against empire.

Do you have any source that this is a bug? Because something like "Faction thinks you're a Baron because of your allied status with them" doesn't exactly sounds like something that accidentally slips into code. It's pretty simple

if "imperial rank < Baron" then trade = 0

There's no room for a bug.

as to my other question, is rank progression restricted now if a player already has a higher rank in the other Navy?

It seems that FD has silently closed the loophole.

I thought it would make sense if the station said something like

"Listen, normally we only sell them to Barons, but for a trusted ally like you..."

Apparantly there was order this week from the imperial fleet command saying this has to stop and so the rules are more strictly enforced now :(

I concur on the "silently closed loophole". This last weekend I was able to buy the Imperial Clipper but was still short on funds. I could get to the screen where it told me what my credit would be for selling my old ship back and how much more I would have to pay. I looked again last night and those same stations now all say Baron rank required.

This kind of ticks me off. It's back to RNG favoring us with rank missions. I HATE RNG. Theoretically one could play this game for 2 years and never get the rank progression missions needed even though having enough credits to buy and outfit a fleet of Clippers.

It would be nice if someone at FD confirmed it this was just patched.

I got my Clipper now. I made allied with the dudes, but at the same time I also finally achieved Rank of Baron on a delivery mission. So I don't know if Lord + Allied with the local faction would have been enough.

It would not have been sufficient. Baron or nothing. FD closed the exploit loophole very recently.

BTW, you can get the ascension mission for Baron while still being only "Friendly" with the Empire. Remember that rank progression is _mostly_ independent of reputation with your Major faction, aside from certain threshold scores (hidden) that release the RNG gods to start rolling the dice for the next ascension mission. Details in the lavendar link in my sig block below.

It's really not quite that bad. RNG plays a role but I'm guessing there's a threshold before the RNG gods will even start rolling, and as you surpass that threshold, I bet the odds of a "winning" roll increase. If that sounds obsure, see the lavender link in my sig block below.

Why is it an exploit? Do you have any sources to that end? As I've explained, code like that doesn't randomly appearunless the coding was extremely shoddy.
