Seeking Attacks/Input on Some Ideas: Exploration Ships

Hi,

I made this post a few days ago and updated it today.

If anyone has anything to comment or would like to constructively (even cursing too) tear this to shreds I'd dearly appreciate the feedback.

- I'm trying to get my head around what is a "good" exploration ship if we could get some more ships dedicated to it in the future
- however, I feel it is more important that people put in their own two cents on what makes a good ship than just one person splatting out ideas
~ one perspective: 100 to 500 billion systems of bare minimum experience I haven't had so ya... please please input something if you think there's something to be said

example:
I like wide open canopies because I'm a bit claustrophobic. Perhaps this is too bias and there's a strong advantage to a smaller tight, even cramped, canopy I haven't or can't appreciate it.

anyway, blah...

About the Vulture, I've always thought the model looks as if it was originally intended to move, with the "wings" spreading out sideways and the cockpit moving forwards (like a vulture, obvs.); you can see the bars on the sides of the cockpit that would do it. It would have a great view if it did that and had a clear canopy - would make a fantastic exploration and scavenging ship.

By coincidence, I was thinking of doing something along the same lines to what you're doing - only I was thinking of what I'd like to see in the Cobra Mk V as an explorer. Will continue to ponder.

A good exploration ship is one you know and are able to anticipate in dangerous situations. Picture yourself in 80,000ly or 10 months from now and ask yourself what you would not have to bear and what you would want to have around. Then take a standard exploration outfitting and adapt it to your way of flying and your needs. There is no magical answer to that question... What ship do you intend to use? I can always give you my build.

As for future exploration ships, I dream of fast scanners. And actually useful navigation computers, able to avoid binary traps or supercruise to a target and not in a dumb straight line.

If you want the best visibility then go for the Asp, you won't beat it so forget everything else.

If you want max range then it has to be the Anaconda.

Everything else is a case of choosing what is important to you so no one else's opinion really matters.

I want engineer mods for faster scanners. Or extended DSS range - I would love that. A faster fuel scoop (with tradeoff of increased power draw, perhaps? Lower integrity so you really have to mind your heat?) would be nice.

Honestly, I don't really see any problems with the available ships. The Asp is pretty much the perfect exploration ship. Its only drawback is it's ugly. The only thing they coild do to improve on the Asp is make an Asp with Anaconda jump range and then nobody would use anything else. I don't see FD making any one ship the end-all, be-all of everything.

The only reason I don't use an Asp for exploration is that the Courier meets all my exploration needs... and it has more style.
