Seeling exploration data for ranking

Selling exploration data for ranking

Since I plan to get back from Sag-A with a lot of data to sell (I hope I have not jinxed meself! :D) I was thinking about how to use that data to best effect.

I know I can sell to the faction leading a station and easily get allied to that faction. Does that change affect the superpower (like doing missions), too?

Also, is it more effective to sell enough data to a faction to get allied and move to another one affiliated to the same superpower or is it all the same if I just dump the lot even though it will not change the reputation with the faction (meaning that the crucial element is the ammount of cash, not the actual rep change)?

I plan to sell by bits anyway to broaden my missions possibilities but I'd like to know how mindful I need to be of quantities when selling.

There is a cap limit per player per faction per tick, Its a magical mystical number we are not allowed to know and it changes based on "things" we are not allowed to know.

One idea, if you haven't already, you could become allied with The Sirius faction for example for Markus Quent engineer access.
You could also become allied with various other factions to gain permits to systems which are permit locked.

An idea that springs to mind is offering to sell all your data to a particular Player faction for a price in say Paladium.
You could maybe show screenshots of the amounts you could drop into the station of their choice.
Something like I will drop 5mil in expo data and you pay me 5mil in paladium.

Expo data is one of the heaviest hitters (best returns in influence increase) for a player faction.
Specially if you hand them in 1 system data at a time :) (or before 2.3 that was true unsure now).

Anyway well done and GL.

P.S if you can once you dock somewhere... Get in a fully gunned and shielded ship so you can protect all that data, if you dont plan to hand it all in at once :)

Selling 6.5m per system to get Permits is an excellent use of lots of exploration data. You should be able to get all the non faction permits with a half decent exploration run.

Good info above. If you want major faction rank do that with the different empire or federation factions. 6.5mil to the "Emperors grace" then fly to the next system and the next empire minor faction.
I'd take a combat ship to go around selling that juicy data though.

As has been said the permit system is a good shout. Doing the engineers ones like Sirius, Yoru and Eurybia is a good use of data. This is what I'd do first.

Then there's the engineers themselves. Martuuk and Farseer rank up to 5 by selling them data. Unlocking them is fairly easy too if not already done. This would be my 2nd port of call.

If you want pure profit consider doing some powerplay work for Li Yong Rui to get to rank 5 before selling the data. Gives you a +200% bonus (300% overall payout) which is substantial. If you use the cargo moving method you'll pay about 100mil to hurry along all the cargo drops but you get about 65mil back.
In short if the +200% boost to your data will cover the 35mil losses and still be worth doing then it's an option.

Exploration data doesn't help with superpower rank, so just sell it to minor factions you want to get allied with. Permit giving factions are probably the best to start. The engineers aren't that hard to rank up, so save your data to get more permits.

Thank you all for the info, really informative! Too bad I can't use the data for superpower ranking, but I see there are multiple options available.

I sold the data to Alioth independents and Sirius corp. I'm still not allowed into the two systems. Is there a waiting period? Or a special invite needed?

Now you're allied, look at the mission board for them in systems near Alioth/Sirius. After a few you should see a "permit" mission appear to get the permit itself.

In a way they do help with superpower rank gain, as you can sell data to gain allied with a minor faction that is aligned with that superpower and have faster access to more and better paying mission offers from them, making it easier to stack missions to grind superpower rep.

Two questions please, guys:

Q1. Is 6.5 million the confirmed value of exploration data required to go from 'starting' neutrality to allied reputation with a station's controlling minor faction?

Q2. Does raising rep with a series of superpower-aligned minor factions by handing in data as above directly increase rep with the superpower major faction at the same time, or not? (There appears to be disagreement over this.)

Cheers!

1) 6.5m is no longer the correct value since they faffed with Exploration Data values - I have not done it myself, but I heard it was about 13.5m now (for an Independant).
2) I dont think I understand the question. Doing anything good for an aligned faction increases your rep with the superpower regardless of your status with the faction

1. Thank you!

2. That has always been my understanding also but it seems that some think that handing in explo data doesn't improve superpower rep, even though handing in (eg) bounties of course does. Perhaps they're just wrong, or I've misunderstood. Anyone?

This probably varies between factions (and possibly also by BGS state) - I was selling some exploration data to get allied shortly after 2.3 (with data all collected in 2.3) - one faction went to allied with just over 5 million sold, while another took a bit over 10 million. (Both were independent)

I could be wrong on that, it has been a while, but its easy enough to test yourself when you hand your 1st set of data. AFAIK it does increase REP but does not count for RANK (which is where the confusion may be)

Daaang, I just sold 1.8 billion in data, I should have hawked that to a player faction!

Very helpful, TY.

Yeah, that probably is the explanation.

i did get some empire rep for selling data - i think its tied in with the faction rep if its imperial etc. becaue i noticed after sell data i get message from imperial controlling faction my rep raised to cordial and then later my empire rep and progress to rank jumped a bit. it lagged though for some reason.

if you like engineers there are two -felicity farseer and elviras soemthing (cant remember her name) who you can rank to level 5 just selling data to. personally i like increased FSD range an all my ships now. so thats another use than just rep with the powers and factions.
