Seems ok to me

Seen a lot of threads about smuggling so decided to dig out the Asp and tale a look. I stacked around 12 missions for a total of around 30 million, and can say that it was fun but not particularly difficult. The Asp boosts to 390 roughly, has a few extra fuel tanks and an A5 scoop, and aside from 2 dogged cops there were no issues..... Except me nearly crashing into the back of the docking bay lol.

I also took a docking computer which I kept disabled until I'd boosted into the station, then switched it on and let it sort out the landing. The DC also comes in handy at outposts, just boost on up then let it do the rest.

Perhaps the people having problems should try a different ship, cobra mk3 is good and the t6 with class A thrusters too as it will boost to around 390.

I didn't use silent running, heat sinks or chaff.

I was wondering about these mission and how they work. So the idea is to get into the station without being scanned then?

I just don't smuggle full-stop.

I'm committed to only conducting lawful business.

What grievances do people have with smuggling? I'm not familiar with the activity, in its current form.

Yes, if you get scanned you lose the entire stack of missions if they're shadow smuggling things.

Main grievances seem to be interdictions and scans.

Most people that have problems are new to smuggling - or they keep using the wrong methods and get frustrated. I'm still using a Python, I don't even bother running when outside the bubble, I'll kill anything that interdicts me. Inside the bubble I'll shoot any cop that pulls me out of warp, they stop scanning and I low wake to my destination.

As far as getting into stations.. Silent run early, high speed in and out of the stations, use all tools at my disposal and never hear the word scan detected. Complete non issue..

So exactly the kind of thing I'd expect a smuggler to face?

Well...

Yep it's really no different than it ever was except for the "failure if scanned" part.

I'm on my way to make another shadow run right now as a matter of fact.

Exactly. I'm kinda glad they made it like this as smuggling before was a bit of a joke. The missions aren't hard but you have to pay attention is all.

Like your style, have some rep.

With smuggling?

None at all. Works fine.

Attendant A.I. however, completely borked at times. One can maybe understand that some of it stems from the non-persistence of the universe but it does not make the ridiculousness of it all any easier to swallow. An example would be a Viper keeping pace jump for jump with an Asp.

The list goes on, suffice to say that it's not smuggling in itself that is complained about: It's the experience sullied by below-par coding of A.I. behaviour.

I tried my first big money smuggling run from Robigo yesterday. With weaponless type-6. I was kinda nervous and had literally butterflies in my stomach when i took of from Robigo because I had read that you will get interdicted a lot and one scan indeed means fail. It was FUN and exciting, lots of interdictions and closecalls. Almost blew it at the finnish line, when fed security managed to start a scan, but it did not finish for some reason. Which was nice.

If that does occur then it could be irritating but not the end of the world.

I see. Interesting. I have a couple friends on Xbox who smuggle. They've "rage-quit" lately & I didn't really understand why, what with being a humble space trucker.

Nice work! You can normally out run scans of you're ship is fast enough, and a scan will stop once you've entered the station.

Thanks! So boosting away fast enough and scan cannot complete, good to know. I was throwing heatsinks and chaff left and right, while tapping boost like a maniac. I really need to do this more often

What does your ship boost at? 390 appears adequate but that's if they're already behind you.

Was a slight surprise as I always full reverse and drop the landing gear to shed speed.

I use the gear primarily these days, just time my boost a bit better because too late and you do start to panic a bit, no matter what you do.
Easy to master though given time.
Ship before was Vulture so it kinda threw a curveball at me when I switched to the Asp as it has a lot faster boost.
It is a great smuggling ship and one of the best, if a bit ugly.

Not true. The scan can continue inside the station as it completed once when I was inside the station. I believe the scan requires line-of-sight so now I thrust away from the station's centerline once I'm inside. After I started doing that, I haven't seen a scan complete within the station.

Well said OP. For the most part people's issues stem from wanting the high rewards of the missions without accepting the risk and challenge. Some of my most amazing (and most embarrassing) flying maneuvers have been preformed on smuggling missions.

And the complaints on the game mechanic annoyances that are mentioned a lot my take is the staking of missions exaggerates that. If you only did 1 at a time they wouldn't really even be noticeable but when you stack them some of the holes show through.

Still some of the most fun I have had in this game.
