Selecting Primary Port Location?

I've seen a couple others mention it in other threads, but I couldn't find anyone having an answer to it.
Does anyone know if you are supposed to be able to select the primary port location. It seems all colonization targets already have a randomly selected starting location, which often is unfavorable. I thought the point was that we could design our own system, so why not the starting location?

Does anyone know whats going on here? Is this intentional or a bug? And should it behave like this if it is intentional?

For those wondering if maybe you get to select where your port goes after all the materials are delivered. That doesn't appear to be the case. The port will spawn next to where the colony ship happened to be

Yep, I think that's it. But once it's done you can then build a bigger and better port at your leisure in a more favourable location (I hope!)

yeah, except that the friend i was helping now cant build anything in the system once the outpost was finished. Seems like the game thinks it was previously inhabited already...

Oh, that's no good. Have they reported it? 'cause that sounds very broken 🫤

I was just asking about this elsewhere. It does seem fairly random, mine ended up around the 2nd moon of the furthest planet.

Now, since I deliberately picked an outpost (so what I need to deliver within the time limit is achieveable), and with the intention of building my bigger stations later when I have all the time in the world, I'm perfectly fine with this.

I have seen others where it's picked an orbit around the body closest to the main star, and since these were larger stations like the Coriolis, I wonder if the algorithm deliberately places outposts on the fringe of the system to leave the prime spots free for larger constructions?

doesnt seem like it, as the port locastion is already marked before you choose anything

I was lucky, mine is about dead center to the system... And it's a fairly small system. Col 285 Sector ER-J b23-7, it would be nice to rename it to something simpler, like Piper's Croft!

I feel this is aimed at me specifically
Thanks for clearing that up, I will no longer delude myself.

That's pretty disappointing, but on the other hand I'm willing to bet that otherwise 99% of the stations in player systems would be placed right next to the main star ;)

I couldn't figure out a way either. I wanted my first port to go somewhere scenic. Right off the ringed ice planet to be specific. But it arbitrarily placed it. I'll be it by a very close body to the entry star but I didn't have a choice. I even viewed the system map before making the claim and it didn't let me click on any of the plus signs to instance a build somewhere. I can only hope that we will get the option to move them later.

Yep, this random selection is bad, that should go. No one sane would build another Hutton. Hutton truckers excluded, obviously, those madlads.

Is that because although the outpost has finished building it hasn’t been activated by the weekly tick?
Can we actually build more than one thing at a time?
