Selection of starting location only possible once?

In advance, sorry if that question has been asked and answered before, but I tried the forum search and came up empty.

I'm wondering how it is been handled when someone like a Kickstarter backer has several possible starting points to select from. Is my impression correct that you can only pick a starting point once and then are stuck with that choice forever? Or is there a way to reset the character and pick another starting point then?

I saw a post by somebody who cleared their save in the hope of getting a new starting point and they ended up in exactly the same place. Once generated it seems to stay the same forever.

Options, clear save will give you back all the start options again,

I've never started in the same location twice though

Yes, delete your save and you can pick a different starting option ... hopefully by release we'll be able to set up several commanders, one at each starting point.

Ah, that's at least something. The location wasn't actually my concern, I was thinking of the starting conditions (e.g. "Explorer" with the long-range Cobra, standard "New Pilot" with the Sidewinder, etc.).

But it's good to know there's at least a way to pick another starting point. Although – to be honest – I would of course prefer an option to have more than just one Commander with a single starting point… ;)

I don't mean to ninja the thread just like that, but today I started up the Gamma for the first time. Something I wonder: Are only the KS Backers able to choose a different starter loadout (cobra, eagle,...)? Because my only option was a standard Sidey with 100CR. I am a Beta Backer, so I recalled getting a free Eagle at some point... How does that work?

The Freegle comes with the same save - if you go to the shipyard you will see you have it stored elsewhere in the galaxy and can travel there to collect or sell it.

Why can't I have a random start position in my sidewinder with 100 credits in an Imperial system. Damn you Feds and your smelly badly designed Federal outposts. Boooooooo! etc etc etc ;)
