Self destruct from options menu

Background
It has happened to me and some others that our ship has gotten into a state so bad the game will not load.
As I did not want to wait for support to fix this I fixed it by chosing CLEAR SAVE in the options menu and that let me play from a fresh start. (I.e. losing all progress.)
I have been informed on my support ticket that the bug that caused the bad state will soon be fixed.

Suggestion
Add an option to destroy just the ship, not everything about the commander, and return him to station as if his ship got destroyed in regular play.
In case of iron man, this would mean activating the escape pod if it is there, otherwise it would mean end of iron man for that commander.
This could be an extra option under the CLEAR SAVE choice.
Instead of the CLEAR SAVE choice being:
ARE YOU SURE?
Are you sure you want to delete your save?
_
"NO", "YES"

it could read:
ARE YOU SURE?
Are you sure you want to delete your save?
"NO", "Only destroy ship", "YES"

Motivation
This would be a safe thing to add as it would not give you any unfair advantage and would really only be useful in case of the game state getting bugged.
You should always be able to eject/self destruct your ship unless there is some particular reason like the escape pod being damaged in iron man.
In case some other bug with a similar result comes up it might allow people to solve the problem on their own.
While there is now no escape pod with Eject/Self destruct in the game, you can self destruct by using silent running or turning off the life support system.

You mean like the option already in game in your ship's menu but then outside of the game?

These things tend to be all or nothing. Once the save is bugged, the whole thing is likely to be unreadable or unreconstructable (at least not without manual intervention), taking all the information the game keeps about you with it, not just your current ship, load out and location. And even if that weren't the case, the corruption could just as well be in the part that records your financials, reputation, etc., as in the part that records the things that get reset when you self destruct. So unfortunately I don't think such a feature would be feasible. In short, in programming: once things get corrupted, all bets are off...
