If I self destruct my ship in beta will this absolutely not affect my live server character/ship. I'm currently at jaques station and have no access to some of the new toys like fighter bays. I would like to test them out and maybe find some bugs.

Beta is a completely separate game / save. Your live CMDR save will be unaffected.
Make sure that you self destruct in beta! Make sure it says beta 2.2 [3] in the bottom left of your screen.
