Self-Destruct - No Way To Abort The Sequence?

I've deliberately used self-destruct in the past for things like Beta tests, but I did wonder if there was an abort if you hit this function by accident.

If there is an abort key, what is it? If there isn't, why is there a thirty second countdown?

Is there any tactical use for using self-destruct by being near an enemy ship? Can you take the other ship with you by deliberately self-destructing near to them? If you are going to die anyway, it could be a viable part of gameplay.

I've used self-destruct to insta-travel back to gather Soontill Relics after dropping them off to friends. Save lots of time and you can deliver lots of needed stuff to your wingmates this way. This can go for MAs (Darniell's progress) if you're being UA bombed as well. You can be back at the station, hundreds or even thousands of LY away as long as you don't dock in the mean time.

Other than that, I can't think of a tactical reason to use it.

Just pray that if they introduce a self-destruct cancel, you don't have to have Riker concur:

"A simple yes would have sufficed, number one."

I wonder if you could "combat log" out of the sequence. Finally a good use for this ... uhm ... feature [hotas]

did you enter the code to abort?

Could it be changed to "Self-destruct on contact with other ship" then ram your nemesis. :D

I .....WANT ..... THIS..... FEATURE !!!!!!!!!!!

I demand FDev stop work on 2.2 and implement the kamakazi manouver ASAP :D

Bill

And the explosion to scale with the size of ship you're flying... sidey goes pop and 1 ring of the shield is barely drained ... corvette goes BOOM and takes out 3 neighbouring planets [woah] :D

Dunno if anyone ever played Syndicate but you could blow your agent up if the worst came to the worst. Was good fun...but would not be in Elite.
