Self destructed my 436mill Anaconda

"10,9,8...3,2,1, eject, eject, eject" - I could not bare to watch the screen, I knew what was coming, and I wasn't looking forward to it. No, not one bit.
The most disliked screen in ED; the "Your ship has has been destroyed" screen. If you are prepared, i.e. have the credits, it will be tolerable,
but will still leave scars on your ED gaming soul, and if you are not prepared, it's a precursor to rage "I'm leaving" posts in this forum, and/or "I was going to uninstall ED anyway" dark thoughts.

And before you ask, yes it's expensive in insurance, 24mill expensive.
Oh, that wasn't your question? Ok, let me guess, your question is: "Why would you want to self destruct your ship, are you totally insane?"

It's a funny story really, and it starts with my desire to fast-track the most coveted rank of them all;the Elite combat rank.
One of the fastest ways to accomplish this is to go to a CZ, either a low or high intensity one. I've gone to many, not only my combat Anaconda, Shuruga,
but also in other ships, for instance my vulture and it was a blast.

Have you noticed that the NPC's has been getting better, smarter and harder to kill? No small thanks to SJA, thank you very much, NOT! :)
Well this time I took out Shuruga to a high intensity CZ, picked a side and started to send SJA minions, the NPC's, to the eternal bit-fields.

Suddenly 4 NPC's decided to "Oh, see a Cmdr in an Anaconda, lets gang up and start blasting" fire at me at once. I was currently engaging an elite Python, and
thought "I can just make it; kill him and make it out in time, I have enough SCB's left". I couldn't and I didn't.

Well, back at the station reparing my 84% hull damage, which is expensive for an Anaconda,
I thought "Tis a one off, it will not happen again, I have learned my lesson now". It did, and I didn't.

So I went back to the CZ, same mo as last time, and lo and behold after some time, 4 NPC's started blasting at me, 2 Pythons, a Cobra and a Viper. Those Vipers are really annoying fast.
I was currently bleeding an elite Anaconda, had him down to 32% hull, and he was too much of a prize to just let go.
So I carried on, my shields getting hammered, my SCB's firing like 4'th july (you know they fire too slowly don't you?), and the outcome was no surprise, "Shields Offline" - crap, run, run, run.

No shields, being chased by multiple ships, desperately finding a jump point, retracting weapons due to power management, all while trying to navigate the ship away from the worst punishment is just no fun, but really intense :)

"Thrusters offline", that message! I can tell you right now, I don't like it at all, no Sir! Still running, ok try repairs, ship goes offline, still getting hammered, "Thrusters online" - yes!

"Thrusters offline" 2 seconds later, ok, I can see where this is going, try repair again, "Repairs not possible", oh dang.

While past desperate, I thought, why not try to save and exit? ok, saving, "Your ship is in danger, wait 15 seconds", oh man.

All right, game saved, start game, I know in the back of my head that it's gonna be bad, and it was.

Thrusters at 0%, no chance of repairs, now last resort is..., yes you guessed it, self destruct!
"10,9,8...3,2,1, eject, eject, eject" . No, still don't like it.

TL;DR
When the going gets tough, the tough gets going when low on shield & SCB's :D
And remember to have the insurance covered when venturing out into the black.

I thought you could still repair modules (except the PP), by using the emergency repair? Even if at 0%. I'm sure something similar has happened to me and it fixed it.

I have faced the very thing you talk about, OP. It seems like there is a threshold at which a gang of NPC's just pounce. I believe it has to do with the amount of bonds you have currently earned. It starts, for me, at around 250-300k in bonds, then boom, everyone wants my ship gone. When I make it through one of these waves, all is clear again until I hit that threshold again.

Recently, those gangs have waited for me to be engaged with a large ship before jumping me. I am trying to be more aware of my take, before just launching myself at the largest of targets. Has anyone else seen this kind of connection?

I believe there's certainly something to your observation, I've survived several initial 'jumps' and then when low on shield and SCB's, the NPC see a wounded animal and then jump you, several ships at at time.

lol, you could have reboot and repaired instead of wasting 23 million.

Unfortunately repairs was not possible, and I lost 24mill

Hehe, good story ;)

Yesterday I had a similar "learning Experience".

Was on my way to execute a "Kill 9 Pirates" Mission, that I picked up while hauling Cargo in my "Tronda" (Trade Anaconda)...
Well, that's a few Pirate NPCs with 5A Shields and 5 0A Boosters? No harm in that.

In the Destination System I dropped into the NAV beacon and got 3 easy picks, absolutely no sweat. But.... this was taking a LONG time.
Had Cargo for the destination System onboard anyway (bait), so I thought I might as well deliver it and drop into USS on the way.

Piece of cake.

First USS got me another lowlife Pirate, so that's 4 Targets done. Working like a charm.

A Strong Signal Source...
Ahh, no sweat. Heck, I've snatched stuff from the noses of multiple Anacondas, checked them out even in lightly shielded Exploration Ships.
It'll be a breeze - and if not (always have a Plan B) : the Anaconda won't be mass-locked and I can easily make a swift exit anytime I want.

Entered the Strong Signal Source - and I'm greeted by 7 Ships.
Excellent - as I only need 5 more :D

One is an Anaconda - 6 others are smaller Ships. Eagles, Cobras etc.

I start off calm doing my first KWS... when I'm "friendly reminded" that I still carry my bait Cargo
The reminder goes like "Under Attack". By 7 NPCs.

*oh*
Well, fine, screw the KWS then - after all I only need the Targets.

What can I say.... 25 Million worth of Turrets being fed by the 7A Distributor blast away (actually stripping multiple NPCs of their Shields).
However... I'm seeing my Shields melting a tad too fast for my taste. Despite being 4 Pips all the time obviously.
Let's see how long my Chaff lasts...

I guess by now you know how it went...

Just prior to seeing my last Ring turn to "I don't like the looks of that Color" Color - I retract hardpoints, boost away and fire up Plan B (Ha! Pays off to be prepared! ).

Frameshift Drive charging - Awesome, cya guys!

.
.
.
.
.
.

Frameshift inhibited by Factor 23

Okay, I got this... I got this...

Shields Offline!

Okay, I still got this...
Boost! Boost! - Chaff! - 4 Pips ENG - 2 Pips SYS - Boost

Looking good, leaving some conacts behind...
Not FSDing out there yet, taking its time... odd...

Boost Boost!
Module Malfunction
Thruster Malfunction

:eek::eek::eek:
*arg*

Checking contacts again... what the... Anaconda outside 3.9km already - only 3 Cobras chasing me (?!)
Hull at 90% and dropping, sparks flying...

BOOST BOOST!

Hull keeps dropping
Thruster Malfunction

Oh crap... Jump.... C'mon.... C'MON! JUMP!.... JUUUUUUMMMMMPPPP!!

4.....3.....2.....1..... *zap* SuperCruise....

.......ARF!
Made it. Barely but made it :p

Lession learned :
- Mass lock extends to 4.5km
- Mass lock can apparently be achieved in numbers as well *g*
- A "Tronda" is a "Tronda". Not a heavy duty Combat ship :D

Tried to take my "Tronda" to a CZ, just to see how it would do;it didn't do, whoops have important appointment, have to go, see you later in my combat Anaconda

How does someone get to a 400+ mill conda and not know about reboot & repair?

I'd like someone to answer this for the sake of my sanity! At least 3 or 4 people have now said the same thing. Quoted below - in bold - did he or did he not try repairing? :D

How much are a cost of Reparing? And how much is insurance??

Kinda seems like he doesn't understand how the repair system works. Thrusters offline doesn't mean the thrusters are destroyed, they have only been knocked offline, trying a reboot will fail. Once he logged back in, his thrusters had been destroyed, at that point he could do a reboot/repair and limp back to base.

Tried repairs, several times, at some point your ship loses the ability to repair, mine did lose the ability to repair.

Funny how the outlook of losing 24mill makes you wanna try all possibilities :)

Actually thought of calling the fuel rats, but they don't called the "We Haul Your Ship Dead In Space" rats yet.
