Self Destruction Proposal: The Last Laugh Fusion Bomb.

Wouldn't it be nice if,

Upon being set about by a wing of griefers in your fully laden T9 you could opt to instantaneously fuse all the remaining hydrogen in your tank.

"You have ten seconds to reach minimum safety distance, 9...8...7..."

Fly away my little starlings... fly fly fly... fly fly fly... BOOOOM. A star is born.

;) Expensive fun, but oh so worth it,

Plus the addition of suicide fusion bomb squadrons would do wonders for immersion no?

It would add something to gameplay, that much is certain - whether it would remain immersive when the same commander did it for the <n>th time is a completely different point to ponder....

It will be great when a sidewinder laden with fuel tanks fly's right in to the hub with a 2min trespass warning and activates the self destruct.
then every one in and around the hub gets annihilated..
that wont get old fast at all.

Sure it's open to abuse. But if the damage was exponential in line with fuel tank class/fuel quantity so it was only worth doing in a larger ship thereby being a very expensive last resort it would be workable i think?

Expense means next to nothing when players have a billion or so in the bank....

A Type-9 Fusion-Bomber would only cost c.85M (without discount) to purchase and cost c.4.2M to replace:

I'm perhaps naively assuming the types of people who would enjoy repeatedly flying into hubs to let of fusion bombs wouldn't have the patience to earn billions and make a career of it.

It was fun to imagine it anyway...

dont worry the guy who invented dynamite though it was a great idea, then having seen the death and destruction caused by it, he later decided it was so bad he made an award for scientists who did things to aid man kind,
or as we know em the nobel peace prize. "named after alfred nobel him self"

Good ideas are still good ideas. its just a shame some people will always abuse the things

If the Type-9 version wouldn't have been effective enough, imagine the mess that an Imperial Cutter version would make (c228M Cr. to buy, c.11.4M to replace):

Hahaha, that would be a mess.

Maybe if the yield was limited to the primary fuel tank so a max of 64 tons currently. And entry into a star port disabled it?

.... in which case the options would be Cobra, 16t, 350k Cr., 17.5k Cr.; Diamondback Explorer, 32t, 1.9M Cr., 95k Cr.; Type-9 Heavy, 64t, 76.6M Cr, 3.83M Cr.....

The DBX sounds like the best "bang for the buck", if you'll pardon the pun.... ;)

I cannot tell you how much I love this idea..

But a couple of points
1. Agreed - it should be based on fuel tank size as well as proximity to the explosion and current shield strength.
2. surely a spacestation would have the facilty to remove a ship from within that posed a danger - like tractor beams
3. There should be a penalty of some sort on the player who deploys this, like the insurance doesn't pay out the full cost because you destroyed yoru own ship and you have to pay 50% - 75% of the value of the ship to get it back. That would hurt people using it as a tactic for griefing, and mean only those who must use it, will use it
