Sell exploration data now or after update?

So I've just come back from my first (quite exciting!) exploration trip where I discovered a terraformable planet!

Anyway, I was wondering if there would be any benefit to me waiting until after the update to sell my data after aligning with a power, or is there no benefit at all? Or is there any chance I would lose my data during the update if I don't sell it?

Just thought it prudent to ask because you just never know about these things!

Cue Ben Rider and his "Sell to Pilots Federation" line.

If you align to a certain power AND put the time in to get to high rank you can get increased profit and probably influence.

And if this is definite then I would sell sooner rather than later as the longer you wait the more likely it is that someone else will register the discovery claim before you and get the extra 50%.

Lol, you could grind for a week and still not get the level required to sell at an increased rate. If it were me I would sell now.

I'm still out and probably can't make it back in time. No biggie, I'm not out exploring to gain any advantage. I'm looking forward to trying a few of the tweaks on the system map in deep space.

Michael responded to this issue in one of the threads - probably one of his dev threads on a Thursday. He basically said that there was no real reason to hold back, but there might perhaps be a slight benefit if you intended to play powerplay and happened to back a particular faction (he was vague, probably quite deliberately). If I was close to civilisation, I would sell now, but it does not sound like a major issue one way or another.

I headed back a few days ago. Got back yesterday - sold all data (even had 408 firsts) - Explorers need to be very careful of taking sides in powerplay - That's all I am saying about it.

Personally I think ALL explored planets and systems need to be RESET immediately. The exploration system is so pathetically dumb that people have already mapped everything within 12 hours flying time of occupied space. There should be much more heavy requirements before you get your name on any explored item.

Not even worthy of a response..........oops

Thanks for the replies everyone!! I successfully sold all my data and made quite the tidy profit.

From personal experience just now this is absolutely false! I just discovered eight systems within 20 minutes flight of an outpost.

Yeah.... I don't agree. I am doing a loop right now in my Asp and am about 600ly out from my home system, and I am routinely seeing planetoids or even entire systems that show as unexplored with no tag. Based on my experience I would probably hazard a guess that the a good portion of the region that I am currently in is probably largely unexplored. There have been some systems that noticeably appear as though another explorer ran through the system tagging anything within 1000ls, but sometimes there are some interesting things out there.
