sell fleet carrier?

Remind me, where do all your modules and ships end up when a carrier is decommissioned?
I just decomissioned & re-bought my carrier, and they didn't transfer my ships & modules automatically - they just let me transfer them all wherever I wanted for free. That was handy because as soon as my new carrier was in place I could shift everything in one go. The only downside was that my previous carrier was scrapped in a fairly remote location, so it took a few days for my ships/modules to transfer BUT as I mentioned, it was free, so no biggie!

How did this work? As in, how did the game present the option to move your fleet?

I have a fleet carrier way out in deep space, with many of my goodies on it. I was exploring when an interesting CG came up, so I took the quick way home (self-destructed a disposable Sidewinder). If what you say is true, then I'm tempted to sell the FC and get this free shipping deal to return my exploration fleet and modules back to ShinDez. I can always buy another carrier later if I need to.

Though I do confess that I actually like the "rent" I have to pay, as it makes earning credits at least a little bit meaningful. So selling the carrier is definitely not a sure thing, just an idea I'm entertaining.

Not sure about the recent changes but when I decommissioned my carrier back in July I didn't have any choice where my modules and ships went.
The game sent it to the nearest station automatically.

Maybe FDev have made a change recently? My carrier was part of the traffic jam up at Rackham's but that shouldn't have affected anything as you'd think decomissioning = decomissioning regardless of the circumstances. All I know is that my stuff wasn't transferred automatically or instantly - I had to do it manually one module at a time BUT that meant I got to choose the location, and the transfers were all free.

Pretty straightforward, really. I requested the decomissioning through the carrier menu and just had to wait a few days for the next Thursday server reboot. I had an un-engineered Eagle in the garage so I suicided in that and woke up in the bubble. Once the decomissioning went through, I got my refund and a message telling me I could start transfering my ships & modules at no charge. The usual delays applied, so it took a few days for things to arrive from Rackham's.

I was refunded the cost of the carrier + modules minus the decomissioning fee, so in the end all I lost was a bit of time and a few thousand tons of tritium I had sitting in the market.

Hope that helps!
