So...
This is an old point. I was suggesting fuel grades based upon the percentage of deuterium/tritium in the fuel (which in fusion terms, is easier to cause fusion with and yields higher energy -- that is real world) Raw scooped fuel would be grade 0. You could sell that after scooping from a star, (and why can't we scoop gas giants?) and buy higher grade fuel with greater jump distance and fuel endurance with a commensurate increase in heat output. We currently have the real world technology to enrich hydrogen fuel. That is real world technology, not even requiring pseudo science to explain it. I get the point that it would take development resources, and there are enough bugs for the devs to fix right now. However, if Grade 0 were the "common" fuel, and kept as the standard price, any increased price for higher grade fuels would be something the players could decide on whether it was worth it or not. Thrusters might even benefit from higher grade fuels, and that makes the whole interdiction/escape picture change.
I don't expect this change anytime soon, but it seems it might be a big wish list item for more than a few of us out there...
