Sell me your passengers

This is the first time I have seen this, but I don't do pax missions often.

So I am travelling from Daedelus station to Mildeptu (100kls from main star) transporting 22 toursts and a certain Prospect Phillips pipes up in message and says: SLAVERY OFFER:

Commander, you don't know me but the organisation I represent is willing to pay you a not inconsiderable sum for the, er, cargo you are carrying.

Then it gave me a station and system for delivery, along with a bonus...

So firstly, I didn't do it because it's just not cricket but secondly...

HOW COOL IS THAT?!

I had no idea such shenanigans were in the game.

Chapeau FDev!

Interesting Idea, selling passengers [arrrr] [money]
Would only be worth it if the payout was better than mission though.

The bonus was for something like 250k but the mission was 1.5 mill or so but...

Maybe they pay the mission AND the bonus?

I should have done it now!!!

Or at least somewhat similar... or have a very large rep increase.

CUrrently I'm carrying some dudes for 2/3 million and I get the slavery alternative offer for 150k... Not much of a choice.

It's a step in the right path though.

Quite a bit ago I was transporting 30+ ( I think 36 ) refugees for 800k. Got an offer to sell them as slaves at a different station for 1.5 million. I did ( my cmdr is a callous individual ).

Yeah, they're cool the first time you get these offers. Then they show up allmost every passenger run and all of them pay like a fraction of the original mission. You then just delete the offers as soon as they arrive. Cool idea, poor implementation.

Having done many short passenger missions when doing Empire ranking, I have seen many of these kinds of offers. The way to easily pick them is that they usually start with the phrase "You don't know me...". Note that if you accept these offers your reputation with the faction that gave them to you will decrease.

I'm pretty sure that was not a bonus but instead an alternate price worth a fraction of the original payout.

My character is of less than stellar moral character. Heck, she'll do just about anything for money. Just about. She'll even carry slaves; of either stripe. But a contract is a contract. She won't burn bridges. If she says she will get something or someone to a certain place by a certain time, she'll do just that. "Your contractee is going to use this material to start a way and kill millions." Don't care. I said I'd get the items to him for a fee and I will do just that. What he does with them is his business.

But in real life, I have a much more refined and rigid moral compass. There's no way I'd do most of the things in real life that I would do in this game. Transport slaves? Kill people for money? Run guns, drugs and other contraband? Not for any amount of money.

It really depends upon the passenger mission, though. If you do nothing but VIP passengers, like I do, those offers aren't worth anything. But if you do bulk passenger missions, the offers can be tempting.

I've only done it once, though, out of curiosity rather than malice, and it was a passenger mission I intended to abandon to harm a faction I was working against. IIRC, it wasn't a slavery offer, but instead they became political prisoners.

They do seem to be incorporating more of these mission branches though, so I am hopeful.

I thought it was very cool.

:D

I have to be honest, whenever I visit my friend's house and see the little automated vacuum cleaner I immediately want to kill it as a skimmer.

Elite bleeds into reality.

I think you are right. It did say bonus rather than payment, but experienced people suggest it isn't a bonus.

In Imperial space, I always honor my contracts. However, I'm an Imperial agent, so its my business to betray the Federation. I take contracts with the Feds all the time, solely to betray them so that they lose influence, while the faction(s) I'm supporting gain influence through my support. The problem at the moment is that there is no Sherlock Holmes to my Moriarty. Instead, my opposition on the Federation side is Deputy Cletus.

That's one of the reasons I'm hoping for a richer Karma system in the future. Right now, it's very easy to game the reputation system. Usually when I start a new theatre of operations, the first thing I do is ExpData-bomb the faction I'm going to be betraying, building the bridge I intend to burn the first place... and lure my enemies upon it.

The annoying thing is that by the time I've moved on, the faction I've spent months betraying, to the point where they've lost control of their station still think of me as their friend. I'm no longer a trusted ally, but they still roll out the red carpet for me. Madness.

The organisation I work for is willing to increase the offer made. We are in dire need of slaves a cleaning team to tidy up the remains in the Secret Moderator Volcano Lair.

These used to be really good missions.
Used to do them in aditi when the rewards were insane.
Such a contract payed 4 to 8 times the original reward.
But then it was nerved. Now they are not worth my time anymore..and oh yeah the ethics.
The stat is still blacked out :D

22 man cleaning team!? Mr Phillips, what kind of mess did we make this week? Unless... has Tj been clipping his toenails again? Those things get absolutely everywhere.

Get these offer a lot, I just don't take them as the money is just not worth it. If I'm gonna be a Duce I'm gonna be a well paid Duce.
