Newcomer / Intro Selling Cartographic data - distance a factor in creds received?

Hey,

Just wondering if anyone has noticed if the distance you travel from the source of the data affects the amount of creds you'll get from selling? From searching the forums/interwebs, I get the impression it may just be the quality/amount of data you have on a system, but wanted to see if anyone had found distance to also factor in.

Cheers,

Lam

I haven't found that distance makes any difference at all. Except for the fact that you need to be more than 20 LY from the scanned system to sell the data.

You seem to get the most credits for the amount of objects found. For just the sun its about 200 credits. For a system with 8 objects maybe 2,000 credits approximately.

I've done a lot of scanning, and haven't noticed any significant changes based on distance when selling. I have noticed reputation changes, so where you sell does seem to matter a little, though I also sold cargo around the same time so that might confound things.

You get a little bit of cash just for using the discovery scanner on the star...and if you're really close it'll even ping it passively. When you're just starting out, you can make a bunch of extra cash with your Sidewinder by pinging the systems you're passing through on your way to other things.

You get more cash from detailed scans. Earth-like and mineral-rich planets are worth more, so crowded systems can net you thousands with just a bit of effort in close scans.

Think that's a fair consensus then. I was thinking that I may be short changing myself selling data as soon as I'm 20LY out from source. Will keep an eye on rep changes too, would make sense that it affects it.

Cheers,

Lam

Aside from the 20 lys, distance doesn't matter. The biggest factor is the quality of the bodies you scan. Rocky/Ice planets are worth very little. Earth like, Metal Rich, Ringed, and various Stars are worth a pretty penny. Basically anything that is mineable or inhabitable is valuable.
