Selling commodities to restore/increase reputation with minor factions

Hello commanders,

I know that one can sell commodities (such as silver) to restore/increase reputation with the faction who owns the station where the sale takes place.
It also seems that this works only if one makes a profit out of the sale.

Now, do we know how much the percentage increases based on a specific margin of profit?
What if the commodities are bought from a player Fleet Carrier at 5% of the price, and sold at the station at regular price?

That used to work, FD made changes to FC purchased commodities affecting the BGS a while back, so the loophole may be properly closed.
Best thing to do is try it, then you can let all of us know if that particular scheme still works.

Basically, from my understanding, any carrier bought commodities retain their initial value based on where they came from/how they were acquired and the setting of prices on the carrier is irrelevant to the value when sold at a station.

Also, mined goods do not affect BGS Influence, AFAIK. You get a bunch of money out of them and possibly some Reputation, but I'm not sure about that.

Thats my plan to give it a try next time I drop to unfriendly.

I also have the impression that the rep change does not show up instantly when selling commodities? Or does it?
Does it need a relog to speed things up?

It is instant - you'll get the notification sound each time your Rep goes up, very useful when needing to buy yourself from unfriendly to allied so more murdering can go on...

It used to be that selling in batches that exceeded 400k profit would be the most effective method, it used to take less than a Python full of high profit cargo to get back to allied that way.

I've noticed now and then (simply because I rarely look) that the faction info in the right-hand panel doesn't update for a good while, even after I've had the notification beep and the "text message" thingy informing me that my reputation has changed.

Yup, this one makes sense.
I did notice the notification telling me instantly that my rep has changed, but pretty sure it did notice a lag on the status screen showing my rep with the local faction.

I will try to check Inara next time, since I synchronize my data via EDMC, and Inara does display the reputation percentage with the factions (from -100% to 100%).

But what if I first buy and store some, let's say, 2000 T of very cheap silver, then 1000 T of very expensive silver?

Does it do an average of the values? Take the latest?

I'll be honest & shrug & say "Dunno,Guv"
I suspect that the goodies are identified in your inventory - same as stolen tritium can be sold by me as clean, but will show as nicked on the FC I sell it to ;)

Good question, and in fact the same could be asked about when you simply buy goods in multiple batches from normal markets, and later sell: the game will I'm sure display a total profit figure, but does it get it right?
I almost never do this so I've no clue, but I would (optimistically!) guess that it gets it right.
