Newcomer / Intro Selling Data to Universal Cartographics

No you still have all the info.
You only lose the data if you see the rebuy screen before selling it to Cartographics
You won't get to see the data in the Universal Cartographics screen - which, after all, only shows the price UC is prepared to pay for the data. But you can go to the galaxy map, click on the system in question, and view all of the stars and planets you've scanned.
Once you sell the data, you can do this (view the stats from the galaxy and system maps) at any time, and if your ship explodes, you still get to "keep" data from any systems you sold the data for. This is an important distinction: if your ship explodes and you haven't sold the data, you lose the data and the systems become Unexplored for you again, so if you want the data back, you have to go back there and re-scan those stars and planets.

Slight thread hijack but on similar lines, why when I go to the UC screen I initially see multiple data for sale but having offered and sold the first one the remainder disappear and are replaced by the "Nothing To Sell" message?
Because you're selling a whole page at once.
As Chris says, you can sell the whole page (button at top) or you can sell one system at a time. If you have a lot of scans (more than 50 I think) you will have more than one page and will have to page sell multiple times to dump it all.
Does selling data increase your reputation?
Yes, with the Controlling faction at the station you sell at. It's also can be used to influence the BGS.

The only distance factor is that you must be more than 20Ly from the system who's data you are looking to sell.
and on the same note... Does the selling price increase the further away from the surveyed system you are?
No that only works for Rare Goods and basically they level out around 160Ly from origin.
