It'll enhance your reputation with the local faction and political party they're aligned to. If you're looking for an 'in' with the Alliance then sell exploration data to 78 Ursae Majoris where the Alioth Independents hold a station there. I did after a 6,500ly jaunt and eventually got my Alioth Permit from it. Not entirely worth it in the end. I got bored so am now Wanted by the Alliance after murdering a few cops lol
