Selling ships?

I am sold on the Cobra being my initial goal for my primary ship, but I would like to try the Eagle along the way. If I spend 40k on the Eagle, how much can I expect to reasonably sell it for once I have enough to afford the Cobra?

Can you sell ships, and if so, what are the restrictions (if any), and what sort of return can you expect?

Thanks.

Great Q, and on top of that, would some planets have cheaper prices, e.g. the manufacturing planets? Then you could become a ship trader! This mechanic was on Galaxy On Fire on iOS and was a great way to make cash.

The trouble there is that the Cobra holds its value pretty well, but the Beluga loses 250,000 CR as soon as you fly it off the forecourt. Depreciation is not fun.

It would also be nice to maintain a purchased ship as part of your stable, allowing you to switch ships depending on the mission. Would certainly be better than having to repurchase and re-outfit each time. I am sure it will be sorted out in Beta or Gamma.

Agreed. Only problem, mechanics wise, is that it would be really weird if you can fly one ship to the outer planets, and then your other ships magically appear there as well. So the ships would have to be starport bound, which then instead makes it inconvenient if you fly around too much. Pros n cons...

I can pay someone to drive or ship my car from Virginia to New Hampshire. Maybe I can pay someone in Elite; Dangerous to fly my ship from one system to another. For a price, of course, in both credits and time. Just a thought.

Elite never had a "hangar".. the idea of a garage is quite dumb and we'll leave that for someone else to spoil.

The idea of storing ships is "dumb?"

Only being able to own one ship at a time when you have more than enough money for multiple ships is smart?

You cannot sell a ship in Alpha 4, i.e. if you buy Eagle for 41K you will need to earn additional 110K for Cobra. Of course this will be changed but who know when. In the final game you will have the ability to own multiple ships.

Selling ships isn't supported yet.

Thanks for the response, Michael.

I bought an Eagle, but am curious if I am able to switch back to my Sidewinder without losing my Eagle. Is multiple ship ownership implemented, or if I click "buy sidewinder for 0" will I lose my Eagle?

Thanks!

Multiple ship ownership isn't in yet so you would lose the Eagle.

You will lose Eagle and you won't get your 41K that you have paid for Eagle back. Selling ships is not implemented yet either.

Although you don't have to worry about pirates attacking your car on I-95 :)

Why buy an eagle if you want to go back to the sidewinder? Surely the Eagle is a 'better' ship.

Any advantage of a sidewinder over an eagle? Apart from the rustbucket charm? :S

In FE2, when we bought a new spaceship, the price of the old ship was automatically deducted in the price of the new ship. In ED, the purchase / sale should be a little more elaborate
