(as I understand it, animals cannot currently be sold/traded/released until sexual maturity? Apologies if the below actually already exists)
I appreciate that babies need to be reared with their parents for some time after birth. However, enforcing this rule until sexual maturity feels a little excessive, at least in some cases. For quite a lot of animals, the combination of social requirements for lots of females, high birth rate and long maturity time means that unless:
a) you stick with bachelor groups (not very feasible given how quickly in-game time progresses) or b) you micro-manage birth control (letting one or two females off it for only a very short period every few years)...
...you quickly end up with far too many juveniles running around, demanding (perhaps also excessive) hard shelter space, polluting the enclosure etc, without any way of reducing their number. In reality, I understand inter-zoo breeding programs routinely transfer young animals between facilities after weaning etc, but some time before sexual maturity.
I'm guessing such a change might not be sensible/simple to implement without significantly changing the aging mechanics, but it would make things a little more pleasant. I'm not convinced you really need to keep peafowl with their parents for a full three years, for example!
