Send a ship ahead to a station

I've only ever done a couple of the CGs in the past and it always seems to be the case that I'm in the wrong ship to complete it. The CG system might be only a few LY away but my desired ship could be 100s in the wrong direction, meaning lots of wasted travel time. It'd be great if we could have a ship sent ahead of arriving at a station. Seeing as we already pay to have a ship brought to one, it'd make sense to be able to send it to any we've visited before or are linked to CGs.
Just a thought and maybe an incentive to increase participants in CGs.

Also might be useful for doing engineering as well because at the minute I have to retrieve the ship and fly it myself to the engineer. I've gathered all the materials and data

I didn't realise it had. It'll make engineering a bit easier as well. It's QoL afterall.
I mean you would think in the year 3305 where you can summon a ship to a station you would be able to send it to one as well.

+1 OP

I would add pre-shipped modules to this.

Would be great to ship stuff off I will need
somewhere ahead of time, so I can use
up their slots for FSD boosters and gas tanks.
I have a Krait MKII that is very combat based with the addition of SRV, collector and fuel limpets and some storage. I use it for gathering materials and data for engineering. If I buy a new ship with awful jump range, I have to fly it to the engineer and that's if I haven't flown it around to various systems to get the best modules to install. I know waiting for a ship to arrive can take hours depending on where it is and really can stop your game in its tracks. Sending it ahead allows you to stay in your current ship and continue to play and gather materials needed and credits to buy better modules.
I believe this is a Quality of Life must have.

Do you know how it used to work? there was no ship transfer at all... So if you wanted to move ships around, you have to actually FLY them everywhere... and if you wanted to move more than one ship to a location, you had FLY one ship there, then buy a cheap ship, fly back to where the other ship are, sell cheap ship and FLY the next ship to your desired location and repeat until you had all the desired ship in said location.
Back then, it was pain to move around combat ships, due them having really bad jump range... Now, you just jump into any cheap bubble taxi ship, arrive in a few jumps, and then request your slow jumping combat ship to your current location...

Funny how people try to avoid flying in a game that is all about flying...

The same could be said about the auto docking or the supercruise assist, couldn't it? It's a game and my real life restricts the amount of game time to wait 46 minutes for the ship I want to be delivered so please forgive if I want to pay someone else to fly my ships ahead of arrival to make my life a little easier. I am a billionaire afterall. I might want to get involved in a CG and the 5 hours per week I get to play doesn't allow me to get involved as my ship is 20 jumps away in one direction with another 30 jumps back again to the CG system. There's about 1-2 hours gone there. So it isn't about avoiding flying, it's about letting me enjoy the few hours I do get to play it. If it does get implemented, then just like auto docking assist and supercruise assist, it'd be your choice.

So if you have no clue today what ships you want there, what would send ahead bring to the table then? would just send a bunch of ship just in case?

This is just min/max problems, because you now complain about limited time, and your own choices should not have an y effect on this. Back in the days, it was pretty common to actually have multi role ships, that was easily tweaked a bit to better fit the task at hand, so doing some module swapping, like adding cargo racks if hauling was the task or add some hull reinforcement if combat was the activity.
Now people cannot be bothered to do anything unless they have their special for the task ship. No planning, ignore one of the selling point of Elite, the space is big...And moving around requires some planning.

Seeing as time management is a current problem for me and probably 1000s of others playing the game or put off playing the game, it would be a big improvement.
I could buy a ship in one station and know what materials I might need to improve the fsd drive. Only the engineer can improve the module with special effects added. So I'm travelling 100s of LY in this short jump range ship, wasting time to get it there when I could be out gathering the materials I need for the upgrade, then I could go to the engineer with my ship already there, upgrade it and I'm all good.
I might be 100s of LY away from a CG and fancy getting involved but my good combat ship is elsewhere and hours away, at the moment, I say there's no point.
And stop rattling on about 'back then', the game has improved greatly over the year and with small additions to cater for all types of players whether sat in a box room with full VR, or on the sofa at night whilst the family sleeps and you just want to get an hour or two in, what do you care? It'd be a choice whether to pay 'large amounts of credits' to have some space valet take my combat ship to the CG system whilst I make my way there in my current ship. If that ain't your thing then ignore and move on instead of trying to be a smart and trying to undermine my opinions.

Absolutely! And back in the 1800's, there were kids down the mines and rickets. The good old days, eh?

They don't know they're born today.

Oh for heaven's sake, not this again. No, you can't take your long range lightweight ship to Colonia and find all your short range engineered ships waiting for you there, ensuring that everything is always as easy as possible. But you are getting a carrier which will allow you to travel around with your ships, in some not-yet-established manner. So can we stop having this suggestion every week now, please?

You can already fly your long jump range ship to wherever, and call your other ship to you, why would being able to send it ahead instead be so bad?

Honestly just curious.

Please don't assume you know what i wanted. I asked for a simpler way to get involved in the week long CGs by allowing my desired ship, whether it be combat or trade to be sent to the CG system.

I agree, you're still flying to the destination anyway, so to save the 3 hour wait once I get there for it to arrive, it could be already there or not far instead. It seems some of the veteran players get upset at the suggestion of making something slightly easier when they had to do it the hard way years ago.

Yeah, the Push Service that could (and IMHO should) complement the existing Pull Service when at a Destination when it comes to Ship/Equipment Transfers.

It'd sure help alot, hence it's a very good suggestion.

Yes, I agree with this suggestion OP. Being able to send ships ahead would allow me to do other things (like flying to the destination station) while the ships are being transferred.

This would be a much more effective use of time.
