I've always been a pretty vociferous opponent of instant transfer, but I don't have any great objection to ship-forwarding. The ship still takes time to arrive, and isn't being magically teleported. And it still requires at least some forward planning. There could be additional requirements, such as actually being able to select the target station (which would require you to have access to the system map for that system, hence having carto data from a prior visit) and maybe having good relations with the station's controlling faction.
My only objection is that it isn't really needed, and I'd rather the devs worked on other things. But if they decide to put it in regardless, then so be it. We have been told that the jump of a Carrier will be "scheduled" somehow, and I think it's likely that the same interface could be used for forwarding other ships.
Incidentally, according to lore, ship transfer is via megaships. Transfer speed works out at 6ly/min (over long distances: as transfer between stations within a system isn't instant, it might be "6ly/min plus a few minutes"). So it's entirely possible that a Carrier's 500ly jump will actually take 500/6=83.33 minutes, or 1 hour and 23 minutes (plus a bit).
