Engineers Sensor Fragments for Professor Palin

I know this was originally posted over a year ago, but it has some recent replies so....

I just arrived at the crash site on HIP 17403. Initially I was impressed by the atmosphere and being scanned as I approached prior to landing was quite disturbing. Anyway, I land fairly close by and proceed to explore...and, well, it sorta fizzles out at that point. I'm not finding Sensors or Sensor fragments, just LOTS of Fruit and Veg, Coffee, Fish, Narcotics and the like - so, regular cargo I'm not interested in. What I'm not finding are the Thargoid goodies I came here for. Perhaps something has changed? It's very frustrating.

Any advice welcome if you've visited this site recently. I'm going to continue exploring as best I can, hopefully I can gather a good load of those Sensor Fragments...

Edit: So, after multiple re-logs (sigh) I finally see two fragments rolling down the hill...which then proceed to get stuck under a bit of wreckage, totally inaccessible...re-log again...

Edit 2: Ok, it still seems like this is totally RNG. From the number of Sensors or Canisters containing Sensors roll down the hill, sometimes none, to what path they follow and whether they become stuck and unable to be collected. Still, I've got enough for Palin now after some relogging.

The key to this appear to be to park at the bottom of the slope, wait and hope you get lucky :)

Scoob.

For what it is worth, this area works well still. Just scan the beacon above the planet and the location is super simple to find.

Weird bump.

I went there a few months ago (to unlock the Prof. too) and it was fine. There's an abandoned human colony and a bio site not far from the Thargoid crash site that are worth checking out too. A DSS will reveal all the POIs

Just been there and grabbed 40 or so fragments fairly easy once I found the site.

Really wish I’d read this thread in FULL beforehand, though ... coulda brought a DSS and saved myself a lot of LAT / LONG positioning faff!!

Still - got Palin unlocked and up to G4 access ... now for some material hunting to get to G5 ... my ‘vette may actually have a half decent turn of speed soon!!

I also completed this today broad daylight relogged 3 times got 87 fragments not particlarly fun got stuck and destructed twice but my Drives are at 5 now on my Krait and Cutter so not so bad and ive got the frags for the other one once I make it to Colonia on a nice FC

P.S. I realised this is the first time ive ever logged on/off to gain what I wanted

Got yanked and scanned by a thargoid after leaving this site! So cool but scary, since I have not encountered or engaged them before. He left after scanning me though. Off to get dirty thrusters.

Been here today, at first it was the same as with other visitors before: Just Food canisters and other things like that, but nothing thargoid.
After logging out and relogging again, thargoid sensors & sensor fragments were "all over the place".
I took most of them precisely at -35.0123 / -141.3822 close to the destroyed SRV.
Thanks Frontier for providing such an athmospheric place... This was fun and creepy at the same time.

I've just unlocked Prof Palin and Chloe Sedesi.
On a whim (because I was still a long way from the bubble) I decided to try a Thargoid surface site first instead of going directly to the crashed ship.
The one I chose was the closest to me at the time - "Taurus Dark Region CQ-Y d36 7 a" (nominal lat/lon = 73.2347, 168.6743).
It was a real adventure! I had never previously visited a surface site, so it was pretty weird and rather creepy, driving around inside the structure itself (I had thought that I'd just be prowling around outside, shooting and scooping).
Best of all, I didn't even need to do any relogging to get way more than 50 fragments (i.e. enough to unlock both of them). That was a good thing, of course, because when I did log out for the night, it put me over 3 km away from the site, for my own safety :ROFLMAO:
There were things to shoot for meta-alloys (and other stuff), data points to scan, and of course plenty of scavengers and sensors to shoot for the fragments (and lots of other materials that I guess will be useful for something in due course).

So, PSA: don't go the crashed ship and do the shoot/collect/logout/login cycle - just hit a surface site.
