Horizons Sensor Scale Type?

Been playing for some time now but there is one thing I have failed to figure out, what is the real difference between the Linear scale and the logarithmic scale. more or less what do they do.
Any info on this would be very helpful.

(Annoying), AFAIK it's always logarithmic regardless of setting. ISTBC.
