Sensor Zoom: self adjusting?

Every time I look at the scanner, it's not at the zoomrange I set it at two minutes before.
This has been a feature for a long time. Anybody else notice that?

I set my joystick U-axis for sensor zoom, leaving it in either up or down position still gets overridden...

I also have my sensor zoom bound to an axis, but I don't have this issue -

What, physically, does yours look like?

Mine is a dial, so when I set it all the way, it constantly reports +1 -

If yours recenters itself, perhaps that's what is happening?

If not this sounds like a joystick issue more than an elite issue.

It's a variable resistor I think, I have opened the joystick before (a Freedom 2.4) to fix an unrelated issue.
In-game the hardware works as it should, but when I jump, re-target, or other randomness it bounces the zoom indicator back on the HUD.

If only it had a centre notch, I'd use it for it's intended purpose (throttle) but the centre point is impossible to find without a deadzone and using a deadzone the resoloution is next to useless...

At somepoint they changed it so the Sensor zoom would auto set to be an appropriate zoom level based on the range to the target.

Cant remember when the change was made

It would be nice if that was toggleable

If you map it to a rotary axes on the Joy stick (if you have them) it will stop this and stay where you set it.

If you're in Supercruise then the zoom is dependent on a logarithmic speed/time horizon calculated range around your ship. Which is a bit annoying.
