Seperable ship bodies/ combined ships

Federation ship designs have lines that make it appear as if a smaller ship or 'escape module' could come off the larger one.

I can easily imagine the cockpit section of a Python, for instance, separating from the bulk of the main/combined ship and being used as a shuttle or 'ships boat'.

This is most probably not the case. But I think it would be a cool feature for some ships to have. Two or more parts that can function independently (with limits) but come together as a much stronger unit.

That's a very good suggestion. It makes diegetic sense, fairly obviously. It makes artistic sense, given SF's penchant for it in everything from Terrahawks to Star Trek. It makes gameplay sense, since it can be limited in any way the devs choose.

Sadly, it's almost certainly a complete pig to code, so it may or may not happen. If they do the Anacondas-carrying-Sidewinders thing, this may not be far behind, but it seems unlikely, otherwise. +1 for the good idea, anyhow. :)

I don't feel this suggestion is worth its weight.

I could kinda see it working for ships too large for the mail slot though.
