Horizons Serious Help needed.

I am trying to find a Tip off POI.
The co-ordinates are approx 18 Lat by 50 Long.
I can set the compass at the top of the hud to 170, and the 2 figures at the bottom of the height above ground don't change correctly.
At 170 Deg. the top number changes from 56 and dropping. Even when I set the compass to 160 or 180.
The lower number -156.3221 does not change if I aim for 178deg.
I tried aiming for 0 but I still can't understand the readings.

Please help people. My ship is trundling around the planet. And I can't dock to wait it out.

I think the long number is the top number for Elite dangerous. Is this right?
And the bottom number is latitude.
When I google those words the lat number is always the top number. Is this Right?

Latitude is North-South, longitude is East-West. 180 degrees is South, so when you head in that direction, only the top coordinate (latitude) changes. If your heading is 0 you will still only see latitude changing, because you're travelling North.

If you want to change only the bottom number (longitude) your heading needs to be 90 (East) or 270 (West).

Thanks Gunnet. It was the top and bottom I was mostly confused with.
