CQC Seriously Bad Game Design

Perhaps mods also do not approve of some of CQC mechanics? But yea, I'm as o_O as you are.

My comment was more one of amusement. I have no real opinion of CQC mechanics as my experience of CQC is about 2 hours max. I just though the comment was amusing so I probably should have put a smilie after my post.

(also to be fair he never said he was leaving the keyboard whilst this was happening - just using stealth tactics to avoid being shot, possibly with some exaggeration).

CQC is totally based on skill not upgrades or sidegrades. knowing how to fly around the map or strategically have common sense when your fighting with enemies

example: player in front of you has 48% hull but 2 shields and your working on taking him down. however theres another player behind you with 70% hull no shields however hes firing on you that has 60% shields but 30% hull. do you A(use your chaff and get out of there. B(wait for your ally *only in team death match* to come to aid you or C(shoot your chaffs and try and take down the pilot in front of you.

things like the example above vary and the outcome depends on your situational awareness and common sense. and as you progress through CQC you get something called EXPERIENCE. sorta like CS:GO how hard it is to learn how to aim and shoot for the first time. then when you start going through the game and play more and more you get better. so please dont say this is bad game design its just newbie players that think they're going to be anakin (or luke) skywalker and be a fricking badass and blow up the death star with the force....

This is very, very, bad design. It's clear why it takes so long to get a game going- it's because everyone tried it, and realized it was horrible, and ran away screaming.

Ya know, I'd feel pity for you but, I don't. Truth be told--and MOST players aren't willing to admit this... is CQC is pretty balanced from the start. It is entirely possible to have a fantastic win/loss and kill/death ratio in the stock Condor. If you want a few engine perks or shield perks (the only things that may help or may not)... well, you only need to get to what, level 11 or so for those?

Do you know how easy it is to get to level 11? It takes like five or ten games maybe. It's ridiculously easy.

The problem, as I've said elsewhere, is most players come to CQC after spending all their time in carebear solo or group mode, get their butts handed to them because they aren't as good as they thought they were, sulk and leave because they realize maybe the Open players were right: Open trains you to be a better pilot and player of the game--not just because of pew pew skills... but by learning how to think space combat through.

So... do yourself a favor, pick yourself back up off your feet and get back into CQC and learn how to fly for real now. After you do this--you can go enjoy Open mode which is fantastic fun and everything Elite was made for.

I said this somewhere else: I'm very new to Elite: Dangerous, and put some hours into Open before trying CQC. I don't like "how to" guides and the like, so I settled in to figure things out in Open, and have enjoyed slogging through it (there isn't much in the way of in-game guides, but it's been fun, so far). Once I started CQC, I was hooked; I haven't touched Open but barely in the last several weeks.

One thing I did notice just last night: NPC encounters in Open have become a lot easier; fights I might have lost hull in before CQC have become fights I don't even put pips in shields for (and frankly, being confident that I don't even need to pip shields makes the fights all the easier). So, unless there's been some huge changes in the last couple months that made NPCs practically impossible to lose a fight against, I expect I picked up a few things from CQC that are helping me out in Open.
