Server meltdown on launch day ?

I was just wondering if there were any expectations / risks of a server meltdown on launch day (no pun intended).

I mean with the amount of server disconnects already, what can we expect after the 16th ?

Today I was just about to complete mission brining some commodity back for a nice wedge of credits.
Probably took around 14 FS jumps there and back to find the stuff. Got back to the starport and even though I had 7.5hrs remaining, the entry for my mission was missing from the Bulletin Board.
So I Saved and Exited only to find when I tried to go back in that the server was offline.
"Aah", I thought, "That's why the entry wasn't there on the BB".
A few mins later, the server came back and I went to the BB and it still wasn't there. So, grasping at straws, I left the space station, turned around and re-docked.
Still missing. So I lost my reward :(

Any more like that and these server disconnects will make me bankrupt.

I'm going to be even more nervous to play these tasks after the 16th so I hope they're ready.

Most games have server problems on release and expansion release day so I would be very surprised if ED didn't have any problems with their release.

Well the whole thing is running on the Amazon servers globally, which can be scaled as required.

Hopefully FD has booked in a huge amount of extra bandwidth to cope with it all ;)

Why is gamma 2 upgrading again. I downloaded it last night and the game ran fine. Now I go to start the game and it is upgrading again. Takes hours to upgrade too.

I think it will be fine in the most part though I'd expect server disconnects here & there, I would not go the the length of booking a day off work just incase.

Yeah pretty much. I live in New Zealand, so I'm 12 or 13 hours ahead. Release day for me is somewhere on Wednesday 17th, and with the heavy load and occasional glitches/overloads or whatever, I don't really expect to play much till next weekend anyway.

But there will be plenty of people who won't have time to play till the weekend anyway.. so.. hmm. Play around xmas? ;)

Was it a mission with two different delivery options?
There still seems to be some issues with those in 2.02

in rural Oz and will be having the exact same issue, download speed for major updates is always around 50kbps for me..... gamma 2 took over 12 hours to download. for the record I grabbed 20gb X 2 (installed on 2 computers) for elderscrolls online a couple of weeks ago and took 4 hours a computer so its not my connection speed (as crap as it is)
