Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun!

Yes, I've been burned.

Silly old dog that I am, I did not check the star type for the system I was jumping to, and got heat-damaged at my breakout point. Bad Dog! Sit! Stay! Melt!

The fires coming out of the holo projectors were well done. :)

Fortunately, I had the money for insurance.

There's a list of non-scoopable star types out there. Is there a list of Death Suns? Sounds like something that could be included in the star map, or a list option in Universal Cartographics for both.

Learn from my mistakes.

Another reason for a written manual...

What was your heat level when you started the jump? If you were already over 100 before you jumped, then it'd be understandable. What do you mean death suns? They're all hot and close when you come out of your jump, just a matter of steering away from them and managing your heat levels BEFORE your jump.

Well under 50%. I, of course, broke off and ran as fast as I could away from the star. Heat went to 300% in less than 15 seconds.

White star, very hot. Burned my fur before ship went boom. :(

Hmm, 2 replies and no puns

Well if you Meddle with astronomical objects like that, expect your Atom Hearts to get smashed like a Mother.

One Of These Days someone might come accross the Relics of your burnt out ship.

If you suffer another Momentary Lapse of Reason youll run out of Money damn quick!

There are some that have huge stars on the realistic map view, guessing might not be good to jump into them. I did find one that had 3 stars < 50 LS apart, I got all 3 on a screenshot, will try and post when I get home.

If you keep your heat below 200% you just end up comfortably done.

Oh, Sheep! I have wound up on the Dark Side of The Boom!

Goodbye, blue sky.

No dark sarcasm in this classroom, please. We need the astronomy teachers to leave the kids alone. Where Death Suns come up, you had better run!

Can we get Steven Hawking to Keep Talking about how to identify Death Suns?

You might it not have noticed but you must have jumped right in the middle of a contact binary, that'll cook you up quick, just aim away and hit the throttle.

This happened to me Saturday, jumped into a system where the main was basically two stars very close to each other, almost had a heart attack when I came out of hyperspace right into and through the sun and stopped right in front of the other, heat started going up very quickly, I was lucky I realized what happened right away and got out as quickly as possible, only lost 2% of the hull from heat damage.

Hell I gave the OP rep just for the title alone. I am a MAJOR Floyd fan. Them and Moody Blues probably had more of a impact on my life than any other band. And yeah some suns are insane hot. If you don't IMMEDIATELY hit full throttle and boost out, you will end up being the burnt turkey for sure.

It was probably a white dwarf - small and... well, white. So avoid those. I never had problem when jumping to giant stars (if I remember correctly).

I used to have similar problems till I saw Emily Play, now I run like hell as soon as I come out of interstellar overdrive. As for the type of sun - green is the colour, the ones that look a it like apples and oranges, or some kind of vegetable, man.
