Newcomer / Intro Set up a joystick

Hi, hope someone can assist, downloaded Elite Dangerous this morning, and on trying to set up the controls, the game does not seem to pick up my joystick, just gives me the Generic Joystick option, and on selecting this, when entering the training sessions none of the joystick controls work.

My joystick is a Logitech Attack 3, and my computer recognises it.

Anyone got any ideas?

Try rebinding your controls manually, perhaps your joystick is registering, but not as the same keys as the Generic Joystick. In Options->Controls, select Pitch Axis with your mouse. It should then wait for you to input a new key. Pull back on your joystick and see if it registers as something different. If so, then you'll have to rebind all of them. If it doesn't show up, then your joystick is not registering, and you should look into drivers.

Good luck.

i use the thrustmaster t16000m joystick like you my pc sees the joystick for what it really is but elite only sees it as a generic joystick however mine worked fine, what i did do was rebind some keys so i then had a custom profile of keybinds i then edited this file and renamed it t16000

Thats a cool trick...how did you edit the files to have the t16000 on the preset list?
I just got a t16000, still trying to get used to it, but got all my buttons bound the way I like them now...but this option that you show does not show up on my preset list.

The binds are typically stored in C: Users/your name/AppData/Local/Frontier Developments/Elite Dangerous/Options/Bindings. You might have to 'allow' show all hidden folders/files. Take a copy of the Custom.bind file and store somewhere else just in case. Right click on the file and rename it to lets say t16000.bind. When you restart the game it should then be visible in the control options.

Not to sidetrack this, but for you T16000M owners, you may want to look at the Thrustmaster TARGET software if you're not using it already. There's a nice writeup here. For example, I have one of the buttons scripted to request docking, so I don't have to actually traverse the menu manually.
