Seting up the DK1 for ED

So the DK1 thread is WAY too large, and search functions are not helping. I cannot locate how to actually get my Oculus Rift DK1 to actually work with Elite Dangerous.

Youtube and Google are not helping me either. Google just leads me to the one thread, but provide no actual information that helps me get it setup. So with this thread can we please just get an actual thread that explains step by step for us nooblets in getting a DK1 setup? Please?

I guess I should start by saying I got the latest DK1 SDK, 0.3.2.

I tried plugging into both HDMI and DVI.

I set to 3D mode side by side (but that doesn't bring the images close enough)

Setting the game to Secondary (the rift) also does not give me the option to set 3D mode to Rift.

I have a GTX 660 ti, and I updated the drivers.

yes my Oculus is plugged in, USB and power (tested the Test room from the SDK)

I cannot even get the option to turn Oculus 3D mode on.

I would consider upgrading to DK2 :>
DK1 will not give a good experience in any case.

The resolution is too low for more than a demo and as you can not lean forward with DK1 you would never be able to read text.

I don't think the amount of time required to get DK1 running is worth the results.

Well I can't upgrade to DK2 unless I get a whole new computer.

SDK for DK2 requires 7 or higher.

I bought Windows 7, but computer won't upgrade to 7

That and I'd still have to buy DK2, and it's not worth it when release is around the corner. Was hoping to get setup with DK1.

Unless you are a developer doing active VR development I wouldn't recommend upgrading to the DK2.
The DK2 is not a consumer device.

The settings in ED needs to be oculas headphone or oculas speaker, not side by side.
if thwat option isn't present then the rift isn't being detected. Make sure you install the latest drivers

The -latest- drivers are for DK2.

I got the last one before 0.4.0 (DK2), which is 0.3.2

the option isn't showing up.

Anyone with a better step by step? Because It's not giving me the option to set the 3D to "Oculus Rift" I have it set to the second monitor, I have the latest DK1 drivers 0.3.2.

I've used the blasted thing for other games, why can't I work it with ED?

You should be able to use the 0.4.4 drivers. They handle both devices.

I was able to run iRacing on DK1 with the 0.4.3 drivers installed.

EDIT: just noticed above you said you aren't running Win7 or higher. Not sure it's possible then since AFAIK ED requires 0.4.4 SDK :(

DK2 probably won't work for you either until you upgrade your system. I have an i7 4770 with a GTX780Ti and it barely runs it fast enough at min details in rift mode on the DK2. A gtx660 won't cut the mustard.

More issues with DK1 and ED 1.05

I too am struggling to get the Rift DK1 working with ED. I tried to download the Oculus 0.4.5-beta runtime and SDK, but that fails to detect the DK1 (appears to be a known issue). So I went for 0.4.4 - that detects the DK1 and most demos and config apps work. Following the trick above, I set the DK1 as the secondary monitor, and launched ED. In the graphics options choosing Secondary monitor does not give the Rift as an option in the 3D settings.

However, just to show that to a degree something works I tried the Single Player Combat Training ED application - now in that case the Rift DOES show in the 3D options, and when selected 3D mode seems to run, but I can't get into the game as the menus don't show - only the beautiful backdrop hovering someway off and my cursor.

My guess is that ED now requires Oculus Runtime 0.4.5, which doesn't detect the DK1 whilst the training missions are older and work with the 0.4.4 but not properly.

Can anyone confirm / help? Very keen to experience ED using the Rift (yes I know text won't be readable - the immersion will still work though :)
