Setting course in navigation computer

Every time i open the galaxy map (especialy after a reload) the computer is giving me another course for my destination (curently exploring now so the destination is colonia) and that other course jumps somehow are difirent from the begining. (remember yesterday when i logged of i had 150 more jumps to colonia and today when i reloaded they became 169) So either colonia is moving further and further or im not getting something... Is it happening to any of you?

It's normal. The new course plotter isn't all that accurate or consistent.
Your course is cleared when you log off and re-plotted when you re-open the map next time.
When it's re-plotted, it's plotted from a different location. Since it's starting from a different place, it creates a completely different course.

I find it's more consistent if you filter the stars more. For example I usually get a course with fewer jumps if I remove M class stars from the list.
Giving the plotter fewer choices seems to make it more efficient.

I curently have "M" out too. Its kind of VERY inaccurate since 19 more jumps is like 1000 Ly more traveling time and around 30-40minutes real time ... Even if i plot 1000Ly course it does it in more than 25 jumps and its quite annoying since 25 jumps is 1250Ly.. Anyway good to know that its normal and not my fault..

Bear in mind that jumps aren't in a straight line, unless you're in a very dense area of the galaxy, so you can't make the direct comparison that (number of jumps) * (your ship's jump distance) = (the range you cover in a straight line.)

I'm sure there's some convenient mathematical formula for the increase in overall distance travelled for a certain density of stars and a certain jump range...

In my experience and testing (that I did some time after 2.4 came out) the new route plotter isn't as bad as many people say it is. You can check the data I collected here - four ships with two different fuel tanks each, four different destinations (starting from Shinrarta Dezhra), KGBFOAM filter on and off.
You'll notice that the plotter is more efficient over larger distances. Looks like it doesn't have as much leeway on a shorter trip as it has over a longer one. As such, that's likely the explanation to why your route to Colonia got longer when you got closer.

Im not complaining, 20k Ly plot route is much better than plotting every 1k Ly , I was just curious because i thought i miss something. 19 jumps more is a lot of distance (apx 1000 Ly ) .. after one point im afraid to open galaxy map because it will recalculate and maybe show me even more jumps :p ..Marx nice data collection!

It shouldn't recalculate every time you open the galaxy map... but if you change the filters (like switch from Star Class to Allegiance, or add a different star type to Star Class, or switch from Map Mode to Realistic Mode), then yes, it will recalculate.

And, as others have stated, every time you log off and on again, it recalculates.

If I log on after a route has been plotted then sometimes it cannot plot a route, not a problem, as I just select another star.

FWIW

I recently travelled circa 6.7kly

The way there I used auto plot all the way and that was 183 jumps including some neutrons - Average jump 36.61ly (although I was jumping 46-48ly odd each time so I think it just couldn't plot a straight line and meandered me about towards neutrons )

the return journey I managed in 141 jumps by doing 1kly plots that's 42 jumps less - roughly 42 minutes quicker :) - Average jump 47.5ly

something fishy going on....

It recalculates every time i open the galaxy map, without touching anything. Seen that many times when i wanted to bookmark something. And like 90% of the times the recalculate was adding 10-20 more jumps.. which is something like 10-20 mins more. So i was wondering.. if someone does not have a lot of time and logs in to make 10-20 exploration jumps a day and then logs off... with the way the nav computer is going (magically adding jumps all the time) will he ever reach his destination ? lol...
