Setting for increasing font size

Please include a setting to increase the font size throughout the whole game.

It's not problem to read it on monitor (I guess) but like many other games I'd like to play big on my TV however the font is just a few notches too small to read without strain. I use the same setup to play PS4 games and it's working well with the font sizes used there (I understand they are tuned for this kind of setup and E:D isn't).

This is especially a problem for the left side panel which contains the missions (where to go to, for example) or the list of stations to jump to.

OTOH on the right side it's less of an issue because the most one uses there is always the same things (landing gear, cargo scope) which is learned after a while (second/third from top, etc.).

Market almost usually works although it's smallish the numbers look very distinct.

Some of the fonts on the forward screen appearing top left/top right are also way too small; small reddish appearing on black is hardly readable.

In general the UI is fine and the colors/contrast is very appropriate. I'm not asking for doubling the font size ;-) but being able to increase it by maybe 25% would be great.

Personally I wouldn't be bothered when some of the UI would look a bit kaputt as long as I don't have to strain my eyes because of the size.

Thanks for this great game btw, keep up the awesome work!

Would be especially useful for Oculus users however I think it would be difficult to implement in a way that didn't cause clipping problems for the UI panels.

Probably a very small user base for this - name another PC game with variable font sizes? Not really practical either because of layouts. If the font is not clear enough on your tv, try lowering the resolution.

That is, unfortunately, not possible. The "size" of the font is always in relation to the whole screen. I.e. even if the resolution would be 320x200, the size of a given font glyph on the TV would be the same (extreme example, would of course be unreadable). Lowering or increasing the resolution does not change the size of the menus, fonts, etc. (which is a good thing, imho; font size should be independent of screen resolution).

And I wouldn't mind clipping issues, btw.

To be honest I don't know many games except text-heavy games which allow changing font sizes (e.g. Civilization or similar ones). In most games a) it doesn't matter because of the few text or b) the font is large enough.

But the details displayed in the cockpit, names and numbers, are extremely important in ED. For example, reading the mission text in the left panel is a real PITA. It's less so if you open them on the billboards because there it's rendered bigger.

Some system names are using I or L or 2 or Z, characters which when skewed due the perspective are hard to read and strain the eyes.

Maybe not the whole UI text must be made bigger but the most important key parts should be. IMHO.
