Setting up controls

Hi everyone, I am trying to set up my controls with KB & M. My mouse cursor does not show on my screen so I cannot get out og the dock in the tutorial... Can anyone advise please? TU

space bar

Your mouse does nothing in the cockpit - you need to use the focus keys - and SPACE is the default "action" key (ENTER is default quick chat).

So to launch in the tutorial - S to move the highlight to "Launch" then SPACE to action the launch.

You should see instructions on screen (in blue I think) to tell you what to do in the tutorial. ... also note that certain controls etc are only active at certain points in the tutorial.

FOCUS KEYS / BUTTONS:

also movement defaults:

These are taken from the manual - link on your launcher.

Once you have got the basics down (Para Handy's handy (doh!) manual extracts as examples) you will find the general controls sections of ED in the main game menu and can take your time looking through those to see what's what, maybe noting a few down etc.

For some reason ED has one of the most awkward 'controls' screen i have used (and i've been a flight-sim fan for a long while), and you are best not messing with it for now other than to note some useful default options.

Do make a backup of these keybind settings (Important!).

They will be in the folder 'Bindings', somewhere like:

C:\Users\your user name\AppData\Local\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options

Then copy/paste that 'Bindings' folder somewhere safe as a backup for when you mess up your control settings (or a new update from Frontier resets them to default!). Once you have created your own custom control settings it will be under a profile name of your making and these will also be in that 'Bindings' folder, so it is good idea to keep regular backups of that folder. There is nothing worse in Elite Dangerous than having to redo your personal keybindings from scratch!

Welcome to ED and fly safe commander.
