Setting up Elite to run multiple instances

So I've just completed console transfers of my console cmdrs (XB & PS) so now I have 3 accounts that use the Frontier Launcher to run.

I've installed the launchers to their own directories on the C:\. This is handy as it lets me save the login details and makes that whole thing easier.

What I want to do is have all 3 accounts logged in and playing at the same time. It's possible to have Ody/Horizon 4.0 running for one account, and Horizon 3.8 running for the other. The third account cannot launch.

I think that I need to duplicate the game directory and point one of the launchers at it, any idea on how?

My use case here, for the curious is I'd like an account logged into each version: Ody, Hor 4.0 and Hor 3.8 so that I don't need to switch between them for Fuel Rat rescues.

ed can only log in an account once

if you want to launch the game multiple times you will need multiple accounts which can in run from the same game install location.. though its a total PITA ive run epic and fdev launcher from one install..

youll need to create a separate launcher for each account ie
account1, account 2 youll need to rename edlaunch.exe and edlaunch.exe.config
EDLaunch-account1.exe and EDLaunch-account1.exe.config
EDLaunch-account2.exe and EDLaunch-account2.exe.config
iirc even if the game is launched from separate install locations you still need to differentiate between the launcher names

if you want to run EDO, EDH3.8 and EDH4 at the same time you will need 3 accounts

Will it save the journal files to different directories though? Mine for different CMDRs all seem to go in the same folder, so I have to switch the files in and out when I log in to different accounts. Not sure how it would cope with simultaneous logins on the same machine.

So the install location of the launcher does let you launch into diffrent accounts. The problem is that the Launchers always point to the same game install location. This means that you can launch Odyssey or Horizons 4.0, then launch a second account into Horizons 3.8. This is because they are different executables.

So I can launch account 1 to Odyssey, I can launch account 2 to Horzions 3.8, but I cannot launch account 3 to Horizons 4.0 (because the executable is already running for account 1/Odyssey)

What I need is a way to target the launchers at a second game install location

I use Sandboxie for my 4 steam accounts. Run 3 Elite accounts same time, and a few other games with 3-4 clients simultaneously
Make a second Steam folder, copy the exe and the common/Elite Dangerous folders , run it through Sandboxie. It's easy to set up

The Sandboxie solution sounds simple, I haven't tried it. I use the steps described here to run my 3 accounts, but each is from a different provider (ED, Steam and Epic). Pick the parts you like, but in order to have separate log locations you must create different PC users and use the /runas parameter. It's doable.

So to give an update on my solution here.

I was able to transfer the original copy of Elite into a Steam account, and use sandboxie to launch a second instance of Steam.
