Setting up new Rift S with Elite

Hi CMDRs,

I installed my new RTX 2070 last night without problems and today I got my Rift S set up. Just for information I bought the Gigabyte RTX 2070 (the cheap? one at £399). I have a Vega 64 (OC Strix) in another I7. Using Heaven benchmark the Vega runs at 170 FPS but the RTX puts out an amazing 215 FPS score.

The Rift S set up ok and I did the demo walkthrough. I finally worked out that Elite works a lot better if you redeem the free code from Frontier and reinstall it via the Oculus launcher. Until I did this Voice attack did not want to work properly in the game. I had the dreaded orange light in the headset but that was cured by resetting the USB 3 port.

I bought a cheap Viper just to try it out and did a bit of combat at a nav beacon....what great fun. One thing I still need to get right is the the words that appear in the foreground (charging supercruise etc.) seem awfully near the end of my nose (I know I have a big one). I have tried playing about with some settings but cant seem to 'push it back'. Also when I look at the right or left panel I have to really twist my head about 80 degrees before they pop up. Is there any way to bring those forward at all?

I am going to go mining tomorrow (in my mining Krait) so it should be fun in VR. Not sure how long I will be able to play before the headset becomes uncomfortable though. Still all in all a nice little birthday present to myself!

Cheers, GD RTX2070.JPG

Sounds like the virtual you is sitting too far forward in the seat. What I'd do is lean forward IRL and then press the F12 key to reset the view. Then, when you lean back upright, your virtual point of view should be better aligned with the virtual cockpit.

Congrats on getting your VR rig up.

Yes, I agree, I suspect F12 is your friend here... I need to reset my view whenever I put my headset on, however in my case my head is usually a few inches further back than it shoud be and I see artefacts from my commanders Remlock suit sholders until I get my head in the right place. Also check that your IPD is set correctly in the Rift software.

I have two VA macros set up to help with managing the Rift/VA.

"Reset View" presses F12. I generally use this as soon as the ED logo loader screen change from floating always in front of the Rift, to the fixed position loader screen that you can pan around. I also use it in game ( if I need to put the Rift back on).

"Voice check" - sends nothing to ED, but VA is set to speak "Voice O Kay". I use this to check that VA is hearing me without involving ED. (In fact - Getting a tiny bit more advanced - my actual VA macro is actually has its "when I say" string as "[Voice;Radio] check" (without the quotes), I did this as I'm used to using the phrase "Radio Check" in real life aviation.

Hi CMDRs,

What do you mean you had to "reinstall it vai Oculus"? Did you have to reinstall the whole game? I also use
Voice Attack and so want to avoid any issues. TIA

You should not have to re-install through Oculus to get VA to work...... (soing so WOULD be a re-install)
Both of my ED licences are Steam only, so I don't have the option of running directly from Oculus, however it works just fine with VA (my VA was purchased from the VA website, not through Steam).

Are you actually experiencing a particular problem???
