Settings for Elite on a Quest 3 with GPU nvidia 4090 and CPU amd 7800x3d

Hi all,

struggling a bit with the right settings. The Quest is linked with the Meta USB 3-Link cable to a 1x USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 20Gbps Type-C port (From B650 chipset).

Nevertheless I see that during playing I loose more battery energy with one hour about 30%. I assumed the USB C power support with deliver more than enough engergy?

The graphic settings in the oculus software are 90 Hz with 5408x2912 (Rendering 1.5x).
The graphic settings in Elite are everything ultra, super sampling 1.0

In the menu I see strange flickerings - there is something else rendered, but "invisible" during ingame view:

And during driving the HUD sometimes is distorted (when driving either to left or right), unfortunately my screenshot capturing ability is too slow. Usually the complete vertical line is doubled. But I marked a remnant red - is that distortion normal?

These are the defaults in Oculus Tray Tool:

Wierd.
I've not seen the first, but I used to see the 2nd when using Asynchronous Warp (ASW) on my Rift whenever the load got too high for my 1070 to generate 90fps. However you've got way more horsepower than I had back then and ASW is off.

Does oculus tray tool still come with the additional overlay that shows when its getting enough frames to keep up? It used to show as a couple of graphs just off centre, I think one was actual fps and the other the ms per frame.

That looks like a memory issue
Did you apply any overclocks to gpu or cpu?

I would start troubleshooting by resetting all your graphics settings in game and in the nvidia software to default values. Re-installing the gpu drivers.

If the problem is back you can change graphics settings one by one to see what causes it. If you can not get rid if the artifacts you are seeing I think you need to RMA either the quest or the GPU. It helps if you have a spare GPU to test the quest.

The strange tooths in the menue and screen loading was ASW on, indeed. It seems the Oculus Tray tool has got not much more benefit than showing the values via the HUD, the settings I do there aren't recognized by the Quest 3, so great thanks to tell the hotkey. (y)

What is the recommendation for the setting "Adaptive GPU scaling", shown in the Tray tool?

What is the recommendation of setting resolution in the Oculus tool and the ingame Super Sampling? With the 4K ultrawide screen I was running ingame 2x Supersampling. It was marvelous. The Quest offers this:

What I'd like to know also, is how to move the 2D screen when walking more near to the eyes. Currently the "monitor" is quite far away. The grey space is what I see, too:

My recommendation would be to switch it off, at least while you are still tweaking your settings. However, I don't think that function actually works from the Oculus Tray Tool any more. You can switch it off from the Debug Tool still though, but of course you would need to run and set it every time.

The battery issue is because your motherboard, like the majority out there, is not capable of power at the levels required* to keep your headset charged while in use. You can have your cake and eat it, but you'll need to buy a cable that has a pass-thru charge lead. Kuject make one, as does Iniu, both of which are sold on Amazon in many countries. Thankfully they are both relatively cheap. The alternative is a separate USB PCIe card that can put out enough power; StarTech make one, but they can be quite expensive compared to the replacement cables and not everyone has had success with them. Some more info here.

*over 2A is required iirc? Your motherboard is likely putting out 1A tops via USB C. It's 15watts for the Quest 2, and 18w for the Quest 3 chargers respectively, but the Quest 3 can use a Quest 2 charger and maintain charge apparently.

man, 7 years after testing the CV still so many issues. Next thing:
on the bottom you can see low an area with low res and more bright. When in Quest Link Desktop I can see the same. Does anyone know what this is?

That's something I can see in Subnautica, also.

That is due to the game image being split into 5 slices for encoding and sometimes occurs when performance has really dropped. The old solution to this issue was to force 1 or 3 slice encoding via a registry edit, but now you can use the debug tool to set Sliced Encoding to OFF and also change the video codec.

As it is caused by performance loss, I’d suggest using the debug tool monitor graphs to check what your system can do - I usually have the performance headroom monitor running while checking things and altering settings (“HUDS” - Visible HUD - Performance - Mode: Performance Summary).

With my i7 11700 + RTX 4070ti I have the Quest 3 at 72Hz @ 4128x2208 and Elite set at SS 1.0 + HMDQ 1.25 + other settings mostly High/Ultra.

With regards to your earlier question regarding the virtual flatscreen, unfortunately there is no way to move it closer or alter it in any way. The camera suite on foot is, however, in full VR - it’s possible to reposition the camera to give a good impression of a first person view, though it isn’t possible to interact with any game items like doors/panels etc. Aiming guns is also pretty much impossible. It is fun if you want to enjoy the view though 😁
