Settle a question, please...

I think that agro is gained due to DPS laid upon the target, however, my friend claims that DPS is pulled by me because I use a Corvette and he uses a Krait Mk 2.

Both crafts are fully engineered with mixtures of fixed beams and frags

In your opinions, who is right?

The opinion among our group is it is based on whichever ship is dealing the most damage, and not damage potential. So we agree with you :)

If so inclined, you could run a simple test. Both of you prepare to attack and let the Vette shoot first to draw the response. Whle the Vette shoots one weapon with a low DPS, the Krait unleashes full broadsides with all she's worth and see if the NPC switches targets. I think it would.

By the way, if you were to run such a test, be sure to install a good wager with your friend beforehand and let us know what you won :)

Given the level of engineering it really doesn't matter.

Safe to say that there is a certain damage threshold that targets will ignore over a period of time provided that they are not targeted.

A stray shot (or 10) from a class 1 MC will probably not cause agro.

However a fully engineered heavy beam or frag will probably smash through that limit at first hit regardless about whether you have the other ship targeted or not.
