Next week is the Seven Day Roguelike Challenge! Hundreds of developers across the world will be making old-fashioned games with a lot of fun mechanics. Sign-up is free and open to all.
If you haven't made a game before this is a really good chance to jump in the scene. Roguelikes have many lower requirements than bigger games (no need for graphics, sound, etc unless you want them) and there are lots of easy guides to get you into the mix - such as this one on Python.
Last year someone managed to make an EliteRL in seven days, and I made a weird game with procedural music. There'll likely be more cool stuff made this year
PS. A roguelike is a game with procedurally generated content refreshed each game, permadeath, and is usually grid-based, turn-based and single-character-focused.
