Shady contacts

During the recent discussions about ship transfers, some of the other announcements FD made during GamesCom were unceremoniously pushed out of the spotlight, even though I think they deserve to be appreciated as well!

One upcoming feature of release 2.2 whose intended implementation sounds spot on is what Sandro called a "Shady Contact". Here, commanders will be able to redeem bounty vouchers they earned all over the galaxy, cluttering their transaction tab, or pay fines that have been issued against them in arbitrary systems.

This is a feature many of us have been asking for for a long time! The great thing is that in contrast to certain other upcoming features the Shady Contacts seem to get designed pretty much like many players have been suggesting, namely by implementing a trade-off: the shady contact has to make a living, too, so paying fines will be a little more expensive than paying them in the system they were originally issued. Similarly, the shady contact demands a cut from the bounty vouchers a player wants to redeem, so when using the shady contact players won't receive the full bounty, but a reduced amount of credits.

This is the ideal way to implement this QoL feature, because it effectively gives the player options: if he needs every cent of a bounty or is very short of money or just too greedy to pay increased fines, he has the option to fly to the original system where the bounties/fines stem from and process the transactions there. If, on the other hand, he just wants to clean up his transaction tab and doesn't care about paying some minor fee, he can opt to use the shady contact instead, at stations where such a contact is present.

So, I am very happy with the way FD intends to implement this feature and am looking forward to using it! :)

Been asking for this for a LOOOooOOOnnnGG time. I have tons of these things, especially if you're using a kill warrant scanner. Bounties all over the place. But I'm not making a 6 hop trip to collect 75k, and that's if I knew where the faction was. Good luck finding some of them.
.
I will be using this a LOT.

There was some relabelling concerning the "shady contacts", wasn't it? Anyone remember what they are called now?

At Gamescom they mentioned it would only be available at Low Security Systems, which does make sense. That said, I do hope SIN Brokers will be a function of Black Markets-regardless of how high system security is!

It would be great if FD would add a shady looking avatar to the corresponding option in the station menu!

Psst...You ain't seen me, right!!

<< Do you have the money?
- Yes. I have it. You won't have theses fines anymore and you will have your bounty rewarded too. I am my own contact for that.
- But you are a shady contact always staying here in the shadow...
- Exactly, so I speak the same language like them... It's just... Hard to remember the name. No seriously: Shady cotnact calling Shady contact, and then you have three other shady cotnact coming in because they tought it was them. Theses morons are unable to make the diff... Hold on, someone Is calling me. *Take a phone*
Shady contact listeni... What do you mean it wasn't me you were calling for?! Ho yeah! Because Shady contact is soooo much better than me? Huh?! >>

Makes me wonder if S.I.N. can also take care of those low-value "Intel Data Packages" that do absolutely nothing but pay a few Credits and clutter up to 3 entries in the Transaction Tab ?

I hardly feel inclined to travel upto 160LY just to redeem 5k worth of an Empire Intel Data Package.

I want Intel packages to be a source of missions from 2.2 onwards.

I have to say, it is the quality of life improvements that I am looking forward to the most. Non of the ships I currently fly can take fighters so they are of little interest, and I have no real interest in the passenger transport stuff.

For me it will be all about the many little things that add up to a big improvement: Ship moves, Shady contacts, new station interiors, new white dwarves/dwarfs and neutron stars, that sort of thing.

Can we have sunglasses for our character generation in 2.3 please? I wont visit shady people without shades... But anyways, i am really looking forward to the implementation. :)

My most looked forward to features are a route planner that doesn't choke at the galaxy core star density. And the rest of the new shiney :)

Hello Commanders!

The current name of this organisation is now "Interstellar Factors" (they have probably changed their business address as well :)).

Thanks for the response, Sandro!

I don't know, but doesn't sound "Interstellar Factors" very official? But then again, I often miss the subtleties of English puns
