Horizons Shall I give up Elite??? (really frustrated)

Shall I give up Elite??? (Problem Solved!)

Hi,

The last two weeks I went back to Horizons after several months of absence and initially I was excited seeing things have progressed (new UI in outfit, more detailed missions etc). However my excitement didn't last long...

1) I was in system BD-10 4011 delivering a package to Sinclair Port and there I decided to buy a Viper for extraction sites to earn some money fighting wanted pilots. I also stored my ASP in Sinclair Port. Unfortunately when I reached the 1st extraction site, federal security ships attacked me while I was not wanted for anything!! Now whenever I try to land in Sinclair Port to change ships I get attacked!!! The only hint is that on the right panel of my ship I see a "Hostile" warning, but this is something I see in a lot of systems.

2) Since I can't approach my ASP, I bought a Cobra trying to get missions from this System and improve my relationship with the leading Faction of Sinclair Port. Several missions were either space or planet salvage in Sango and Gyvati systems, however, I can't complete any of those!!!! No matter how many times I scan the Gyvati system (basic scanner), I get no further information about where to search... In Sango, I may get extra info about orbital salvage, but then I cannot approach and scoop the mission objective. Even if I use the limpet, it gets disappeared as soon as it enters my ship scoop!!!

Please any help would be appreciated...

are you pledged to an power?

being pledged and trying to go bountyhunting after 2.1 is no fun, and bountyhunting in controlled space of an other faction is even worse. attacking them will count towards undermining and that is against the law, so youll get a bounty.

best just to unpledge

honestly, these thread titles are so annoying to read. No one cares if someone gives up, there's no need to publicize it if you are quitting.

1) You were probably wanted, had a fine, or did something to deserve it. I'm guessing you accidentally shot someone who wasn't wanted. They don't shoot random people without reason.
2)Wait until your fine clears- they are all time based. Check the transaction window for information there. If your rep is very low then you will need to smuggle your ship out - learn how to dock in unfriendly stations.
3) Cargo limpets are not re-usable.

with a "hostile" tag...I would assume you are pledged to an opposing power...
As for packing up your marbles and quitting over a couple of missions and somebody shooting at you....yup, time to give up

1) If security attacks you, it is a dormant bounty. Check your transaction tab. 'hostile' can mean 'some local faction REALLY hates you', in which case they'll attack no matter what. Or you are pledged to a power. Dont do that until you know what you're doing. Check your transactions tab to see if you have a (dormant) bounty outstanding. Check your right-hand screen for info on local reputation.

2) Basic scanners have a limited range. Either use an Advanced scanner with unlimited range, or scan the beacon (drop at nav beacon, scan the thing).

Sounds like you're pledged to a PP faction, or you somehow, really annoyed the faction owning that station!

Unpledge to PP and retrieve your ship.
If you are hostile, due to annoying the faction, you will need to find a way to boost your rep with them, or wait a few days for it to decay back to unfriendly.

Saying that, I've had no trouble docking to a hostile base. Lol
They say; "Your presence is not permitted here, enemy!"
"Docking permission granted"

So weird. Lol

Ok more info, I managed to get friendly with function managing the station and got my ASP back. The ship that attacked me was not security but Alliance Enforcer and in general I am friendly to the Federation, so it must be some kind PP issue. Also regarding Sango missions I had to drop off to NAV and scan navigation point... It worked! Thank you all!!

If your status is "hostile" then you can expect that you may be attacked by ships from those factions on sight, even if you have no bounties. You have probably done enough bounty hunting against ships from the controlling faction at that station that they are now hostile towards you. You now receive messages when your reputation changes with a given faction so that will help alert you if it is due to local rep changes.

2) Since I can't approach my ASP

Actually, you can probably buy a cheap ship (even just a Sidewinder) and try to dock at the station quickly enough that they don't notice/scan you. Just because your local rep is hostile doesn't mean that you will be denied boarding at the station. It's the same as being able to dock quickly at a station even when you're wanted.

I bought a Cobra trying to get missions from this System and improve my relationship with the leading Faction of Sinclair Port. If you want to get more information about the salvage mission you should scan the system Nav beacon. An advanced discovery scanner might also work but I haven't tried this myself. After scanning the Nav beacon you should get a message with an update for the planet to visit in the system.

In Sango, I may get extra info about orbital salvage, but then I cannot approach and scoop the mission objective. Even if I use the limpet, it gets disappeared as soon as it enters my ship scoop!!!

If you're having trouble with limpets, then just scoop manually, it shouldn't be hard in a maneuverable ship like the Cobra or Asp. My guess it that you might have left your scoop closed when the limpets are returning, if that's the case then the limpets can crash into your ship when they try to return and that can destroy the limpets/cargo.

Please any help would be appreciated...

One quick comment about your thread title, you might find that while a title like "Should I give up on Elite" might get your thread some attention it will not necessarily give you the types of responses you might want. If you start your thread with "Should I give up" then people aren't going to take you seriously even if you have legitimate difficulties. Elite has a very steep learning curve and can be very frustrating at times but if these routine issues make you want to "give up" then yes, you might want to consider that Elite might not be the type of game for you for various reasons. If you simply want to ask for help then all you need to do is ask and there are more than enough people willing to help on these forums.

You were probably already hostile with that faction in 2.0. However in 2.1 stations started attacking you if you're in that status. We actually had great fun with this in Eravate. Adles Armada protect newbie players in Eravate and we're also the controlling faction at Cleave Hub, but there's a lot of naughty boys who store ships there in order to grief people. Many of these people become hostile to our faction during 2.0 and when 2.1 came along our station suddenly started attacking all of them when they tried to get their griefing ships out.. it was a joyful time :-D

Why don't you just move to a new system? Make a fresh start and start with somewhere you have neutral reputation.

Just as an FYI:

If you are smuggling illicit cargo and get scanned and fined, this will lower your REP with the controlling faction doing the scanning. The higher the fine, the higher the rep loss. If you repeat this enough, you could lower your rep with that faction enough that they become hostile to you. You don't have to be involved in Power Play for that to happen.

Also...

The new Bounty Hunter behavior could also result in a similar scenario. Not saying that this was the case here, but ANY open bounties will have these guys all over you to a much higher degree than we have ever seen in previous version of the game.

Great. Now you can ask mods to change the title and lock it up, here, before it fills with salt.

Give up. Back on 2.1.05 or 2.2. There is no sense to play now.

I wish we still had the ability of negative rep.
