From time to time I make use of Coriolis.io for checking ship builds and I do spend a fair bit of time reading up on things from other groups sites such as Cannon but not while in game. Whne playing I prefer to stay in the game as much as possible - any breaks I take involve landing first before watching a video or other 'stuff'.

I use TrackIR for headtracking, corilois.io for outfitting, Thrudds for trade routes, wavescanner.net to remind me what surface scans to look for, iRCCloud on the iPad for Fuel Rat comm's, Discord for other comm's and ED Toolbox in conjunction with Voice Attack to tell me where the nearest starport is, to read the latest Galnet News out to me and to make me laugh with its foul mouthed abuse every time I jump into a Federal system. :D

I admire the creators of these external tools and am grateful they made them available.
I do not consider external tools a cheat, but I do hate the fact that they are external.

Engineer info.
For example I really need Inara for information about the engineers. The game is downright anorexic with info in this respect.
I think it is absurd that we can only view one pinned blueprint per engineer. This makes planning of material and commodity acquisition unnecessary hard if you only use in-game information. I want to be able to plan ahead and for that I use Inara.

All this info should be made available in the game. This can be done according to certain rules: for example you must have visited an engineer and have downloaded his blueprint database to be able to view them anytime and anywhere.
I would like the game to make all blueprints viewable after we visited an engineer.

We can only pin a blueprint when we are docked to the base of an engineer. This should change too.
We should be able to select a new bluepint and pin it whereever we are. The only condition should be that we have visited the engineers base and have downloaded his blueprints.

Trade info.
I use EDDB or Thrudds.
The information I can get in the game very often is inaccurate. It is too big a risk to trust the info I can extract from the universe map.
To be effective I need to use the external trade databases.
I would be overjoyed if I had the necessary tools in the game. I would like to pay good credits to get the information I want.

Ship builder info.
Coriolis and the Elite shipyard are wonderful tools and I can't do without them.
I would like this type of functionality to be in the game.
This should be in the game! FD should milk the shipporn in the game and a good flashy, slick internal ship builder would do wonders for that.
It would be a piece of cake to add and need very little maintenance. FD only need to update it when ships are added or when data changes.

Captain's log.
It is not in the game, but it should be.
I deplore the fact that FD currently has no plans to add it in the game.
That was a big disappointment.
I think an internal captain's log is an essential tool to enable players to tell their own story!
It is a very big mistake to leave it to third parties to create this essential tool that will be fundamental to the whole idea of what Elite is about.

I use Captains Log to log my visited systems. I was used to writing them down, using a tablet while piloting, but when i turned to playing exclusively in VR, i couldnt do it anymore for obvious reasons. Works quite well and offers nice editing tools to mark and document your findings. With the introduction of the journal in 2.2 and possible in game use later, this tool may become obsolete in the future.

Voice Attack and EDDI work really cool together. EDDI will look at your game logs and tell you about each system that you jump into. Really adds to the immerson!

Here is a tip for a sneaky way at taking down a large target. Become aligned with Felicia Winters and unlock the Pulse Disruptor in 4 weeks. This weapon causes malfunctions. But mod it with a Bleed thru effect and target a players shield generator. I've seen a 350 million vette turn into scrap in 5 seconds.

Roccat Power Grid. I couldn't handle Powerplay without it.

Indispensable for the CMDR with a wife and kids but who still needs to make that 30 minute Quota pickup.

Scene:
The happy family playing in the living room on a rainy Saturday. My phone beeps, my darling bride throws me a withering glare. I nonchalantly press a button and my PC in the basement grabs another shipment for me. I look at my wife and throw her a tender smile as I put the phone away. Her scowl melts into an adoring gaze. Brownie points galore! Marriage saved!

ED-IBE - good extension - set to my visited stations only - I send data to EDDN - but only keep my data - so just the same as jotting it down - more efficient - so yes I can see profits - but only from stations I have been to, also it is only live when I visit - so a few days later - oopps!!! not profit - market changed - big loss - yes it happens!

It's fair to say that you've activated your age filter and set it to 1 day.
Of course if you've collected your data yesterday, today it will not shown anymore - exept you change the filter.
Set it off (what I suggest in your case) or allow more days.
There is no data loss

@thread:

of course I'm using ED-IBE.
But I allow myself to collect data from EDDN and - if necessary - I get the
20ly bubble data on particular places. ED-IBE shows when a station got it's latest
update and which source it was (file=EDDB, EDDN, or ED-IBE(=self collected)).
So I can dynamically decide, which trading routes are interesting for me.

Even if I do other things ED-IBE still collects market data in the background
and writes the Commander's Log - also the jump information is send to EDSM.

The only other tools I use are my ED-Headtracker and sometimes the EDDB directly :)
